Abstract Lead (Pb) causes learning and memory impairments, but the molecular effects of continuous, environmentally relevant levels exposure on key neurodevelopmental processes are not fully characterized. Here we examine a range Pb concentrations (0.16μM, 1.26μM, 10μM Pb) relative to control neural differentiation in SH-SY5Y cell model. began day 5 was continuous for remaining days, after which assessed transcriptome via RNA sequencing at several time points. The bulk detected changes gene expression occurred with condition. Interestingly, associated lower two exposures were stage-specific, aberrant genes (e.g., COL3A1 , HMOX1 CCL2 ) observed during days 9, 12, 15 both 0.16μM 1.26μM conditions, disappeared by concluded 18. We six co-expression clusters differentiation, 10uM significantly perturbed clusters, one involved cycling DNA repair other protein synthesis. Benchmark concentration analysis identified many affected or below current US standard (3.5μg/dL) these enriched pathways including stress responses, repair, misfolded response, mitosis, neurotransmitter production. The El Valle Volcanic Complex, located in the province of Cocle, Panama, presents geological characteristics that could be linked to public health problems. This study focuses on municipalities San Juan de Dios, Pajonal, and Caballero, where water is consumed directly from springs (groundwater outcrops). region has a high incidence non-traditional chronic kidney disease (nt-CKD) may associated with natural presence potentially toxic elements (PTEs) water. aimed analyze concentration PTEs groundwater assess carcinogenic (CR) non-carcinogenic (HQ) risk human direct ingestion Sediments, rocks, samples were collected. Major ions (As, Al, Ba, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Sr, Sb, Pb, V, Zn) measured, mineralogical composition rocks was analyzed. results showed Fe only PTE exceeded recommended for drinking water, according Panama regulations, Pb USEPA. In Caballero acceptable threshold CR HQ exceeded, higher percentage than Dios. contribute most are As. suggests region’s historical volcanic activity, involving release minerals rich these PTEs, along interaction between contributing phenomenon what led prolonged exposure elements, which correlates prevalence area. novel study, first conducted as it seeks uncover relationship geology site, consumption, implication risks, aim generating new information decision makers generation policies issues such nt-CKD cancer region.

Abstract Background Lead (Pb) is a heavy metal with extreme toxicity and numerous industrial uses. It produces nephrotoxicity notable changes in renal architecture function. The Alhagi maurorum (AM) belongs to the family Fabaceae native Middle East area. In present study, potential nephroprotective effects of AM Pb-intoxicated rats were evaluated. Results methanolic extract was standardized reference its main phenolic compounds orientin, rutin, quercetin. Acute oral studies indicated that safe for animals. Rats allocated into five groups treated 28 days as follows: control, (200 mg/kg, orally), Pb (15 + (100 mg/kg), mg/kg). administration markedly increased serum cystatin C, urea, creatinine levels, urinary NAG. also caused histopathological alterations. However, o-treatment ameliorated such pathological changes. addition, treatment prevented Pb-induced accumulation malondialdehyde (MDA), attenuated glutathione (GSH) depletion, catalase (CAT) superoxide dismutase (SOD) exhaustion. guarded against enhanced protein expression interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB). Further, significantly upregulation mRNA levels Bax downregulation Bcl-2. These associated heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) factor erythroid 2-related 2 (Nrf2) tissue. Conclusion guards involve, at least partly, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic activities well modulation HO-1 Nrf2 expression.

Soil contamination linked to anthropogenic activities has become a serious environmental problem on global scale. It is caused by heavy metals, such as lead (Pb). Dopamine (DOP) biogenic amine that acts neurotransmitter. found in plant organs and induces tolerance against abiotic stresses, including contamination. 24-epibrassinolide (EBR) stimulates metabolism, positively impacting flowering production. This research aimed evaluate whether EBR DOP, applied alone or combined, can mitigate the impacts Pb roots leaves measuring root leaf structures stomatal behavior. For roots, both growth regulators maximized epidermis, with increases treatments Pb2+ − DOP + (45%), (24%), (36%), when compared equal treatment without Pb2+. To leaves, tested molecules improved structures, significantly increasing palisade parenchyma spongy parenchyma. Parallelly, performance was boosted after confirmed increments density. Our study proved mitigated damages exposed stress, but better results were alone.

Abstract Lajes Field is an Atlantic Portuguese military air base that has been used by the USA since Cold War, primarily for intercontinental refueling. For this purpose, large fuel tanks and extensive pipeline network were constructed within municipality of Praia da Vitória, on Terceira Island, Azores. Over past two decades, leaks detected confirmed to have contaminated soils aquifers supply water public use. latter, identified contaminants include TPH, PAH, BTEX, VOCs, metals. Although risk assessment reports unacceptable risks human health, journalistic investigations suggest unusually high cancer rates, no possible exposure conducted date. To address gap, metals, serving as a proxy overall contamination exposure, measured using portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) in First Identified Skeletal Collection Azores (CEI/Açores). A total 64 skeletons with known places last residence selected (44 from Angra do Heroísmo, where present, 20 present). No significant differences mean ages at death observed between groups, sex distribution was similar. Additionally, soil samples 46 graves analyzed assess potential diagenesis. Greater concentrations Sb, As, Cd, Cr, Au, Mo, Sr, Sn, U, Zr found individuals Vitória ( p < 0.05). Soil measurements, Pearson’s correlation test, principal component analysis As levels can be partially attributed remaining likely result other factors, including particularly Mo. pioneering study contributes ongoing discussion subject, further research should both CEI/Açores living population discuss issue.
