Terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems face various chemicals that might induce acute and/or long-term harm. To assess these impacts, ecotoxicological bioassays are essential. However, using animals, particularly mammals, costly, time-consuming, raise ethical concerns. In this context, terrestrial plants emerge as a viable alternative to conventional assays. Thus, the aim of review was address history evolution plant bioassays, highlighting main regulations, guidelines, protocols governing use in tests. Initially, were employed cytogenotoxic effects chemicals, gaining prominence with GENE-TOX program 80s. Subsequently, used allelopathy studies aimed examine ecotoxicity pesticides soil. Currently, regulated by specific standards, such ASTM E1963–22, EPA 600/3–88/029, EPS 1/RM/45, ISO 11269-1, 11269-2, 17126, 18763, 29200, 22030, OECD-208, OECD-227, OCSPP 850.4100, 850.4230, 850.4800 OPPTS 850.4200. The existing standardize greenhouse lab environments, duration tests varies from hours months. parameters be analyzed after exposure include germination percentage, survival rate, root length, aerial part fresh mass exposed plants, phytotoxicity symptoms. addition, absorption rate substances genotoxic mutagenic also assessed. Therefore, data demonstrate represent an important tool analysis environmental risks associated serve crucial allies modern ecotoxicology.

Abstract Pesticides and heavy metals are considered as potent contaminants in aquatic environment. Both sourced into the ecosystems by various types of anthropogenic well natural practices. Such contamination drastically affect normal activity associated living organisms particularly fish. pesticides toxicity cause several negative effects on fish growth, physiology, immune response, reproduction, embryonic larval development different histopathology major organs including gill, kidney, liver, gonads, intestine. Besides, consumption contaminated poses a serious health concern to consumers. Considering these issues, current review is designed investigate toxic aspects fishes along with their possible sources, types, mode action role medicinal herbs mitigate toxicity.

Pesticides are well known for their high levels of persistence and ubiquity in the environment, because capacity to bioaccumulate disrupt food chain, they pose a risk animals humans. With focus on organophosphate triazine pesticides, present review aims describe current state knowledge regarding spatial distribution, bioaccumulation, mode action frequently used pesticides. We discuss processes by which pesticides active residues accumulated bioconcentrated fish, as toxic mechanisms involved, including biological redox activity, immunotoxicity, neuroendocrine disorders, cytotoxicity, is manifested oxidative stress, lysosomal mitochondrial damage, inflammation, apoptosis/autophagy. also explore potential research strategies close gaps our understanding toxicity environmental assessment

Abstract The water-borne herbicides are involved in the toxicity of aquatic animals resulting impaired health status and low productivity. Dietary medicinal herbs present a practical solution to relieve impacts on performances animals. Herein, we investigated commercial glyphosate-induced oxidative stress, immunosuppression, liver kidney dysfunction, protective role ginger or nanoparticles Nile tilapia. Fish were allocated into four groups: first group presented control without glyphosate feeding, second intoxicated with at 0.6 mg/L fed free diet, third 2.5 g/kg, fourth g/kg. kept under experimental conditions for weeks, samples blood tissues collected after 2 4 weeks. Markedly, fish exposed showed highest ALT AST activities, glucose cortisol levels, malondialdehyde levels (MDA) gills tissues. While had lowest MDA weeks ( P < 0.05). dietary lower than Interestingly, fish-fed urea creatinine higher total protein, albumin, globulin 0.05) similar > Further, GSH, lysozyme activity, immunoglobulin In conclusion, superior standard form enhancing antioxidative immune responses tilapia glyphosate.

Pyriproxyfen (PPF) mimics a natural hormone in insects and disrupts their growth. It is well-known synthetic insecticide aromatic juvenile analog frequently used agriculture vegetable crops to control various insect species. At present, scanty information available about the possible potential threats of PPF aquatic organisms. Therefore, this study, different toxico-pathologic endpoints like DNA damage, biomarkers oxidative stress, status antioxidant enzymes were determined Labeo rohita (freshwater fish). In our 60 active, free from any external obvious ailments, same size, age, body mass randomly allocated four glass aquaria (T0-T3) separately containing 100 L water. The fish present groups T1, T2, T3 administered dissolved water 300, 600, 900 μg/L for 30 days. Different tissues including blood visceral organs obtained each on days 10, 20, experiment. Results morphological nuclear changes red cells PPF-exposed pear-shaped erythrocytes, spherocytes, with blebbed nucleus, micronucleus, remnants significantly increased. Our results genotoxicity (comet assay) recorded ( ) increased damage insecticide-exposed fish. stress profile (reactive oxygen species thiobarbituric acid reactive substances) (reduced glutathione superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase) multiple concluded id="M2"> higher quantity lower concentrations treated Hence, findings experimental research determine that could induce adverse toxic impacts

A measurable and/or observable change in a biological or biochemical reaction, encompassing behavioral alterations as well molecular to physiological levels, is referred biomarker. Biomarker responses must be ecologically meaningful and show exposure the harmful consequences of environmental stressors. When assessing condition an ecosystem, biomarkers are regarded early warning systems. They useful for evaluating in-situ chemical impacts contaminants on biota. Although they assessed individual basis, purpose their reactions forecast population-level consequences. We hope give broad definition xenobiotics this chapter, overview processes involved biotransformation detoxification aquatic organisms.

More and more evidences proved that deltamethrin (Del) exposure induced adverse effects damaged immune function to the aquatic animals in parasite killing process with increasing insecticide application. However, little is currently known of negative effect on mucosal immunity, especially gills tissue. Therefore, this study was aimed reveal tissue injury immunotoxicity gill gibel carp following acute exposure. The LC50 at 96 h determined be 6.194 μg/L, then juvenile (Carassius auratus gibelio) (8.8 ± 1.0 g) were exposed four Del groups (0.61, 1.22, 2.44, 4.88 μg/L) for 12 24 h. We measured lysozyme (LYZ) contents myeloperoxidase (MPO) activities found increased concentration exposure, LYZ increase 1.22 μg/L group initially significantly gradually decrease group. And MPO lifted a dose-dependent manner. histological analysis showed caused serious desquamation necrosis surface epithelial cells, accompanied by interlamellar cellular mass degenerative. In addition, mucous cells decreased high (2.44 group) AB-PAS staining. Additionally, totally 2857 DEGs (including 1624 up-regulated 1233 down-regulated genes) identified between control using transcriptional analysis. Among these, some genes involved innate molecules, complement activation, apoptosis-related cytokine, adaptive also down-regulated. Importantly, we system tumor factor receptor (superfamily) binding pathways downregulated based GO KEGG enrichment Meanwhile, detected expression pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-1β, IL-8), anti-inflammatory (TGF-β), LYZ, IgM, Hsp70 after which consistent our sequencing results. Collectively, these results demonstrated provided novel insight explaining extent why Del-exposure fish are susceptible concurrent or secondary viral bacterial infections.
