A biochar (BC) generated by the pyrogasification of wood chips from authorized forestry cuts was extensively characterized and evaluated for its efficacy in retaining/releasing two agrochemicals, namely fungicide penconazole (PEN), herbicide S-metolachlor (S-MET), xenoestrogen bisphenol (BPA) widely present industrial effluents. The elemental composition BC using CN analysis total reflection X-ray fluorescence (TXRF) spectroscopy which showed abundance elements typically found BCs (Ca, K, P) along with essential trace such as Fe Mn. Scanning electron microscopy coupled energy-dispersive (SEM-EDX) described surface features major elements, while Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) revealed, expected, a large specific area (366 m2 g−1). High porosity (0.07 cm3 g−1) demonstrated density functional theory (DFT) method, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) highlighted presence prominent aromatic structure reactive groups responsible binding compounds. sorption/desorption capacity studied means sorption kinetics isotherms batch trials, modeling experimental data various theoretical equations. All compounds reached equilibrium on very rapidly, following preferentially pseudo-second-order kinetics.
