Etomidate, an ultrashort-acting non-barbiturate sedative derived from imidazole, exerts potent inhibitory effects on the central nervous system. It is commonly employed for induction of intravenous general anaesthesia or assisted anaesthesia. Recently, etomidate has emerged as alternative to narcotics and novel psychoactive substances, leading increasing trend abuse. Chronic overdose can result in irreversible brain damage various mental disorders. Severe cases may manifest disturbances, behavioural disorders, self-mutilation even death. The toxicological mechanisms remain poorly understood. Additionally, there limited information clinical symptoms histopathological changes associated with poisoning standardized detection methods blood, urine hair are lacking. Etomidate (ET), a medical anesthetic, is increasingly being incorporated into e-liquids for consumption and abuse as new psychoactive substance (NPS), leading to significant social issues. In this work, large-area Au micro- nano-structured ordered arrays were engineered surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates fast detection precise identification of ET its metabolites. This array, characterized by abundant electromagnetic enhancement hotspots structural uniformity, imparts unique properties the SERS substrate, including ultra-sensitivity, spectral signal reproducibility, quantitative capabilities.
