Abstract Several factors, including environmental degradation, air pollution, intense urbanization, excessive agriculture, and climate change, endanger the well-being of animals plants. One major issues with an increasingly negative impact is agricultural contamination pesticides antibiotics. Seed coatings neonicotinoid insecticides used as a protective layer against pests are shown to exceed permissible limits in most cases. Neonicotinoid compounds bind nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, therefore affecting honey bees’ brain. Heavy metals higher concentrations lethal for bees, residue bee products might pose threat human health. Highly effective acaricides treat Varroa destructor infestations colonies have effects on reproduction, olfaction, production. Furthermore, amitraz fluvalinate mostly found highest amounts lead decreased production reduced colony along learning ability memory. However, scientific studies that bees act reliable bio-indicator pollution. In response growing demand products, adulteration improper storage conditions gotten worse represent new risk factor. light shifting global economy, it important analyze consumer expectations adjust manufacturing accordingly. By ensuring manufacture high-quality, traceable devoid drug residues, consumers will be better protected from subsequent health problems. This review’s objectives based necessity identifying risks associated products. Graphical abstract

Metal contamination is ubiquitous in urban areas and represents a risk to arthropod species. Bees are exposed metals while foraging within contaminated landscapes from multiple sources. Eliminating the of bee exposure complex, requires an understanding how bees become contaminated, accumulate bodies, this influences their health. We selected Bombus impatiens, common eastern bumble bee, as our focal species because it most frequently encountered United States greenspaces. The aims study were quantify lethal concentration limit (LC

Contamination with heavy metal ions from mining activities presents a major environmental issue. This study investigates pollution caused by metals mining, particular emphasis on toxic and essential for living organisms. It starts analyzing the sources of its effects soil, vegetation, water, wildlife (propolis produced honey bees in natural environments). Propolis is an indicator contamination metals, valuable product ecosystems. As part investigation, cations (Pb2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, As3+, Fe2+, Sr2+) cultivated vegetables (carrot, turnip, onion, potato) was monitored 9 points Roșia Montană area, Romania, as well river that runs through area. The maximum values parameters investigated were recorded soil (108.32 mg/kg Pb2+, 23.06 102.17 As3+), water (11.00 µg/L 903.47 60.13 1903.08 148.07 44,024.08 Fe2+), (0.72 0.17 Cd2+) it followed whether same are found propolis (maximum 10.14 6.32 0.158 6.0 1.04 12.06 Sr2+). analyzed waters pH, sulfates, oxygen nutrient regime, microbial load. Additional investigations carried out into quality these samples: activity, moisture, hygroscopicity, solubility, volatile oils, oxidation index, measuring point, density, dry matter, material insoluble ethanol, extractable ash, wax. highest 189.4 mg GAE/g phenols, 84.31 QE/g flavonoids, 0.086 µg/mL IC50 antioxidant activity. indicates bee products, such propolis, can be areas.

Insects are an incredibly diverse class of largely terrestrial arthropods, with a million named species and many more to be discovered. The question insect pain is open one, without broad scientific or philosophical consensus. Here, I present the history science on main neurobiological behavioral evidence used support reject idea pain. suffering experienced insects during rearing, transport, slaughter reviewed, albeit from somewhat speculative lens (given uncertainty at all, lack validated tools assessing in any insects). This study investigated trace element contamination in honey bees inhabiting urban areas around the South Pacific's largest and longest operating nickel smelter Nouméa, New Caledonia. There remains a paucity of research on environmental impact smelting, to date, there has been no assessment its effects popular practice beekeeping, or whether are suitable tracer for smelting emissions. Honey were sampled from 15 hives across Nouméa ascertain linkages between emissions, contamination, uptake by bees. Comparison washed unwashed revealed significant difference concentrations, indicating elements bioaccumulate within internal tissues over time. Accordingly, concentrations higher dead than those that live, with related chromium, cobalt being significantly different at p < 0.05. Except boron, consistently honey, suggesting transfer during production is negligible. Elevated potentially toxic including cobalt, chromium declined distance operations (Spearman's Rho, 0.05), relationship The findings this emphasise potential human health risks associated affirm use as biomonitor harmful

Laboratory studies show detrimental effects of metallic pollutants on invertebrate behaviour and cognition, even at low levels. Here we report a field study Western honey bees exposed to metal metalloid pollution through dusts, food water historic mining site. We analysed more than 1000 from five apiaries along gradient contamination within 11 km former gold mine in Southern France. Bees collected close the exhibited olfactory learning performances lower by 36% heads smaller 4%. Three-dimensional scans bee brains showed that centres insects sampled were also 4% smaller, indicating neurodevelopmental issues. Our raises serious concerns about health populations areas polluted with potentially harmful elements, particularly arsenic, illustrates how standard cognitive tests can be used for risk assessment.
