The global all-ages prevalence of epidemiologically-measured 'functional' presbyopia was estimated at 24.9% in 2015, affecting 1.8 billion people. This projected to stabilise 24.1% 2030 due increasing myopia, but affect more people (2.1 billion) population dynamics. Factors the include age, geographic location, urban versus rural sex, and, a lesser extent, socioeconomic status, literacy and education, health inequality. Risk factors for early onset included environmental factors, nutrition, near demands, refractive error, accommodative dysfunction, medications, certain conditions sleep. Presbyopia found impact on quality-of-life, particular quality vision, labour force participation, work productivity financial burden, mental health, social wellbeing physical health. Current understanding makes it clear that is very common age-related condition has significant impacts both patient-reported outcome measures economics. However, there are complexities defining epidemiological studies. Standardisation definitions will assist future synthesis, pattern analysis sense-making between

Abstract Multifocal contact lenses (MCLs) are one of the solutions to correct presbyopia, but their adoption is not widespread. To address this situation, visual simulators can be used refine adaptation process. This study aims obtain accurate simulations for a simulator (SimVis Gekko; 2EyesVision) daily soft MCL designs from four manufacturers. In-vitro characterization these MCLs—several powers and additions- was obtained using NIMO TR-1504. From averaged relative power profiles across powers, phase maps were reconstructed Through-Focus Visual Strehl metric calculated each design. The SimVis Gekko simulation corresponding design computationally bench-validated. Finally, clinically validated involving presbyopic patients. clinical validation results show good agreement between real MCLs through-focus acuity (TF-VA) curves VA at three distances. All showed partial correlation higher than 0.90 Root Mean Square Error below 0.07 logMAR TF-VA Real subjects. validity approach in-vitro measurements confirmed in study, opening possibility accelerate MCLs.

SIGNIFICANCE Evaluating the visual challenges and refractive correction solutions of presbyopic orienteers identifies features relevance to optometric management needs active presbyopes. PURPOSE Orienteering is a unique sport requiring clarity at range viewing distances has high proportion participants. This study evaluates vision corrections used by orienteers, specifically aiming characterize prevalence different options explore strengths limitations solutions. METHODS Orienteers 40 years or older completed an online questionnaire consisting multiple-choice questions covering personal demographics, orienteering participation, worn in everyday life for orienteering. Free-text asked further information about advice received from eye care practitioners were analyzed using content analysis. RESULTS There 469 respondents (195 women, 274 men; median age category, 55 59 years). For 187 people without distance correction, most frequent “off shelf” reading spectacles (n = 95) use compass magnifier 24), 277 with they progressive addition 96) monovision contact lenses 63). The main faced seeing map detail, lens obstruction fogging rain, difficulty low light daytime. An ideal needed provide both terrain. No type consistently addressed all challenges. valued personalized discussion address their needs. CONCLUSIONS Optimal are individual, but higher additions clarify avoid obstruction, additional light, that clear while avoiding add blurring ground orienteer's feet should be considered. Abstract Multifocal contact lenses (MCLs) are one of the solutions to correct presbyopia, but their adoption is not widespread due factors such as discomfort, lack awareness, a lengthy fitting process and/or unexpected visual performance. To address this situation, simulators can be used aid in refining adaptation process. This study aims obtain accurate simulations for novel simulator (SimVis Gekko; 2EyesVision, Spain) various daily commercial soft MCL designs from four different manufacturers: Dailies Total1 (Alcon), MyDay (Coopervision), 1Day Acuvue Moist (Johnson & Johnson) and Biotrue ONEday (Bausch + Lomb). In-vitro characterization these MCLSs -for several distance powers additions- was obtained using NIMO TR-1504 instrument (Lambda-X, Belgium). From averaged relative power profiles across powers, phase maps were reconstructed Through-Focus Visual Strehl (TFVS) metric calculated each design considering optical diameters. The SimVis Gekko simulation corresponding pupil diameter computationally validated on bench. Finally, clinically pilot involving presbyopic patients with refractive errors additions. results clinical validation show good agreement between real MCLs (for all designs) when measuring through-focus acuity (TFVA) curves VA at three distances. All showed partial correlation (r xy,z ) higher than 0.90 Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) below 0.07 logMAR TFVA Real subjects. validity approach experimental measurements Nimo therefore confirmed by study, what opens possibility assist speed up MCLs.
