Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the structure and dynamics academic articles relating public procurement (PP) in period 1984–2022 (up May). researchers also intend analyse how knowledge domain has grown since 1984. Design/methodology/approach A bibliometric analysis was carried out examine existing state PP research. Based on 640 journal indexed Scopus database written by 1,247 authors over nearly four decades, a conducted reveal intellectual works pertaining PP. Findings that research from significantly increased past decade. Major journals publishing are International Journal Procurement Management , Cleaner Production Purchasing Supply Public Money . Results indicate authors’ cooperation network fragmented, showing limited collaboration among researchers. In addition, results suggest institutional mirrors what commonly referred as North–South divide, signifying insufficient between developed developing countries’ institutions.
