The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations are at center of global political agenda to eradicate extreme poverty, achieve universal education, promote gender equality and ensure environmental sustainability between others. These goals organised in 169 indicators, which give an accurate perspective on main dimensions related with country sustainable development. To gain insight into relative position involved countries, it is necessary develop a composite index that summarises progress achievement these goals, but considering possible conflicts trade-offs individual SDGs. objective this paper introduce Goal Programming model calculate SDG index, capable overcoming some limitations celebrated approaches such as arithmetic geometric averages. proposed balances two solutions: one calculates consensus reflects majority trend SDGs, another biases estimated towards those SDGs show most discrepancy rest. applied EU-28 shows best performing countries regarding development Austria Luxembourg, while Greece Romania remain worst performers.

This paper explores the technical and economic characteristics of an accelerated energy transition to 2050, using new datasets for renewable energy. The analysis indicates that efficiency technologies are core elements transition, their synergies likewise important. Favourable economics, ubiquitous resources, scalable technology, significant socio-economic benefits underpin such a transition. Renewable can supply two-thirds total global demand, contribute bulk greenhouse gas emissions reduction is needed between now 2050 limiting average surface temperature increase below 2 °C. Enabling policy regulatory frameworks will need be adjusted mobilise six-fold acceleration renewables growth needed, with highest estimated wind solar PV technologies, complemented by high level efficiency. Still, ensure eventual elimination carbon dioxide require technology innovation, notably transport manufacturing sectors, which remain largely ignored in international debate. More attention emerging infrastructure issues as charging other sector coupling implications.

Agriculture provides the largest share of food supplies and ensures a critical number ecosystem services (e.g., provisioning). Therefore, agriculture is vital for security supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) 2 (SDG - zero hunger) as others SDG's. Several studies have been published in different world areas with research directions focused on increasing nutritional from an agricultural land system perspective. The heterogeneity calls interdisciplinary comprehensive systematization plethora approaches, scales analysis, reference data used. Thus, this work aims to systematically review contributions by systematizing main fields present synthesis diversity scope knowledge. From initial search 1151 articles, 260 meet criteria be used review. Our analysis revealed that most articles were between 2015 2019 (59%), case carried out Asia (36%) Africa (20%). other continents was lower. In last 30 years, centred six fields: land-use changes (28%), efficiency (27%), climate change (16%), farmer's motivation (12%), urban peri-urban (11%), suitability (7%). It is widely accepted that the achievement of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) depends on effective governance arrangements. However, it less clear which modes and aspects are important for goals. Until now, empirical research has mostly studied individual cases, with comparative studies largely missing. Here, we conduct a analysis among 41 high upper-middle income countries year 2015, drawing Governance Indicators, Global SDG Indicators Database other official sources. Using multiple regression, test influence different governance, namely participation, policy coherence, reflexivity, adaptation democratic institutions at national level, controlling effects additional socio-economic conditions. Of tested factors, participation as well economic power, education geographic location serve to explain achievement.

The Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda recognise role of cities in achieving sustainable development. However, these agendas were agreed signed by national governments thus implementing them at local level requires a process adaptation or localisation. In this paper, we analyse five aspects that practitioners researchers need to consider when localising them: (1) delimitation urban boundary; (2) integrated governance; (3) actors; (4) synergies trade-offs (5) indicators. These considerations are interrelated, while not exhaustive, provide an important initial step for reflection on challenges opportunities working with global level. paper draws inception phase international comparative transdisciplinary research project seven four continents: Buenos Aires (Argentina), Cape Town (South Africa), Gothenburg (Sweden), Kisumu (Kenya), Malmö Sheffield (UK) Shimla (India).

The 2030 Agenda includes 17 overarching Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These are integrated in nature, and a principle of indivisibility should guide their implementation. Yet, the itself does not provide guidance on what means practice, how SDGs interact, or to assess these interactions. fast-emerging field could be referred as SDG interaction studies seeks such guidance, but yet there is no general agreement it take an approach SDGs. Hence, navigating diverse research landscape interactions might prove challenging. This paper aims decipher literature by providing overview current research, based sample 70 peer-reviewed articles. review explores four themes mapping: (i) policy challenges typically addressed, (ii) ways which 'interactions' have been conceptualized, (iii) data sources used, (iv) methods analysis frequently employed. Research gaps identified, where perspectives largely missing include innovation, monitoring evaluation. Further, few consider actor interactions, account for geographic spill-overs, analyze indicator employ participatory methods, whole-systems Agenda. Failing address lead inefficient implementation delay goal attainment. Another contribution reading guide, proposing way along emerging from review, offering structure code future papers.
