ABSTRACT Toxoplasmosis as a zoonotic disease has worldwide distribution and can infect wide range of animal hosts, well at least one third the world's human population. The is usually mild or asymptomatic in immunocompetent individuals, but dormant tissue cysts survive especially brain for host lifespan, known latent toxoplasmosis (LT). Recent studies suggest that LT have certain neurological, immunological psychological behavioural effects on including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer's disease, depression, suicide anxiety sleeping disorders. are controversial, their exact mechanisms action not yet fully understood. This review aims to provide an overview potential effects, basic alteration neurotransmitter levels, immune activation central nervous system induction oxidative stress. Additionally, beneficial LT, explanation within framework manipulation hypothesis, finally, challenges limitations current research discussed.

Abstract Background Toxoplasmosis is a chronic protozoan parasitic infection that affects nearly one-third of the global population. During COVID-19 pandemic, cases were observed in patients with and toxoplasmosis. Therefore, this systematic review meta-analysis aimed to determine frequency Toxoplasma gondii exposure COVID-19. Methods A literature search was conducted six databases (PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web Science, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar) until March 3, 2024. Study selection, quality assessment, data extraction performed independently by three investigators. Statistical analysis using R version 4.3, applying random-effects model. The included observational studies assessed "JBI-MAStARI". Results total 5,936 retrieved, 13 which final meta-analysis. sample 2,947 from four countries, whom approximately 43.26% men 49.41% women. Among patients, 1,323 showed evidence T. through IgG detection, while 1,302 specifically examined for presence IgM 36 positive identified. , determined COVID-19, reached 49% (95% CI: 34-63%; participants; studies; I 2 = 98%, p < 0.01). In addition, evaluated 2% 0-6%; 6 94%, Conclusion It shown almost half had previous IgG, small percentage, 2%, active detection.

Consequently, further research required deepen understanding interaction two conditions.
