However, there is a dearth literature considering complex interplay between changes in post-surgery food alcohol consumption. Furthermore, despite increasing recognition issues surrounding replacing consumption with (Food Alcohol Disturbance [FAD]), most emerging research has focused on young adult populations. This perspective reviews synthesizes small but growing body consumption, particularly FAD, considers its application to surgery general. are unique considerations for surgery. Abstract Background Humans constantly compare their attributes to different reference frames. According the theoretical framework of general comparative-processing model, such comparisons may be perceived as aversive (i.e., appraised threatening motives comparer) or appetitive consonant with, positively challenging motives). However, we lack a measure that adequately captures multi-standard comparisons. Methods Considering appearance-related relevant comparison domain, introduce Comparison Standards Scale for Appearance (CSS-A) assesses social, temporal, counterfactual, criteria-based, and dimensional upward downward regarding (a) frequency, (b) discrepancy, (c) engendered affect. We administered CSS-A 1121 participants, along with measures appearance social comparison, body satisfaction, physical self-concept, self-esteem, well-being, depression. Results A two-factor model ( ) fit data better than bifactor an additional domain-factor comparative thinking ). The validity was supported by correlations external validators beyond appearance, satisfaction. Aversive displayed higher associations most outcomes Conclusions Overall, offers psychometrically sound useful

Abstract Purpose Aversive appearance-related comparisons (i.e., threatening one’s own motives) show stronger associations with depression, psychological well-being, and self-esteem than appetitive consonant or challenging motives). However, the relevance of their congruent equal) incongruent unequal) presence remains unknown. Methods By using response surface analysis, we investigated differential high levels aversive relative to (or appetitive) comparisons. Participants ( N = 1112) responded measures self-esteem, Comparison Standards Scale for Appearance. The latter assesses social, temporal, counterfactual, criteria-based, dimensional regarding frequency, discrepancy standard, affective impact. Results confirmed our preregistered hypotheses. First, higher discrepancy, impact were associated lower well-being self-esteem. Second, a greater predominance over was Third, comparison Conclusions distinct patterns (in-)congruence have important research clinical implications.

The Body, Eating, and Exercise Comparison Orientation Measure (BEECOM) has been frequently used within the context of research on eating disorders (ED). Although both long (BEECOM-L) short (BEECOM-S) versions instrument exist, their psychometric properties have not yet concurrently investigated across different populations in terms age gender. present study aimed to compare BEECOM-L BEECOM-S among Spanish male female non-clinical adolescents young adults. Data from 4 samples including 1213 middle school college students enrolled 10 education centers southern Spain (age ranging 12 35 years, Mage = 17.796, SDage 4.796, 53% females) were analyzed using factorial, correlation, regression analysis techniques. Results provided evidence that support reliability, measurement invariance according gender, convergent/incremental validity for scores BEECOM-S. Concerning factorial validity, marginally acceptable adequate goodness-of-fit indices obtained BEECOM-S, respectively. proves be a psychometrically sound with potential value assessing social comparisons focused body, eating, exercise adults Spain.

Research indicates that aversive appearance-related comparisons (i.e., perceived as threatening one's own motives) are associated with depressive symptoms. However, central elements underlying the comparison process poorly understood. Drawing on propositions of theory, we hypothesized an increased frequency instigates high levels discrepancy to standard, resulting in intensified negative affective impact. Consequently, this heightened impact is expected elicit more symptoms and lower psychological well-being. We additionally these pathways moderated by dispositional self-discrepancies. In a two-wave longitudinal study, participants elevated (N = 500) responded measures self-discrepancy, symptoms, well-being, Comparison Standards Scale for Appearance. The latter assesses social, temporal, counterfactual, criteria-based regarding their frequency, engendered after engaging (partially) accounted relation between subsequent Perceived standards was not key variable process. Dispositional self-discrepancy emerged moderator different pathways. Clinical implications discussed light theoretical accounts from general comparative-processing perspective.
