Descriptive analyses characterized harms observed during Psychedelic reported they treat wide range diagnoses, employing diverse psychotherapy modalities, endorsed need cultural adaptations among treatments.

Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are considered the gold standard for demonstrating efficacy of a treatment or intervention; however, RCT study design alone is insufficient to prevent all forms bias. In this paper, we review conflicts interest and other biases that pose challenges methodological rigor psychedelic RCTs, explore recommended bias mitigation measures. We focus on special relevance RCTs methods mitigating believe actionable urgent practices implement in research: (1) independent data assessment, (2) multisite trials, (3) quantitative analysis, (4) open science practices. Studies of psychedelic use in naturalistic and clinical settings have suggested safety mental health benefits for adults with histories childhood maltreatment. Acute psychological mechanisms that predict therapeutic this population, however, yet to be determined. Two common group - organized ceremonies raves or other electronic dance music events might facilitate effects because the unique psychosocial environments they comprise. This prospective, longitudinal study sought investigate 2 primary questions: first, whether maltreatment planning drugs intent at would see enduring after their experiences; second, subjective dimensions acute experience associated lasting benefits. Eighty-five participants completed self-report measures month before, within days after, approximately months a planned ceremony rave assessing history; trauma symptoms, internalized (trait) shame, connectedness baseline follow-up; various experience. Mean scores posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) complex PTSD trait social connectedness, general significantly improved from 2-month follow-up (ds = 0.73-1.12). Longitudinal changes outcomes correlated These findings implications regarding both potential benefit among as well action psychedelics.

People of Color have been under-included in psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) research. Researchers argued that systemic issues resulting harms to communities color like the War on Drugs and recurrent exposure discrimination healthcare settings may reduce their willingness engage PAT However, there are no empirical data regarding Color's trust or using psychedelics with support trained providers. Therefore, we analyzed from a large-scale survey people explore interactions between providers North America. The sample included 3,547 White people, 448 Color, 377 Multiracial people. A lower proportion consumed provider but an equal had disclosed psychedelic use primary care Further, were equally motivated provider, used treat similar issues, similarly reported as effective other groups. Our findings suggest lack not fully explain underrepresentation research, future studies should investigate barriers inclusion

Abstract Psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) with substances like psilocybin and MDMA has shown promise for conditions including depression post-traumatic stress disorder. Psilocybin may become approved medicines in the coming decade. This study assessed knowledge attitudes regarding PAT among 879 U.S. healthcare professionals via anonymous online survey. Multivariable linear regression was used to identify predictors of openness clinical use. Most participants (71.2%) were female White (85.8%), a mean (SD) age 45.5 (12.7) years. Registered nurses (25.4%) physicians (17.7%) comprised largest professional groups. Respondents endorsed strong belief therapeutic promise, moderate use support legal access both substances, higher overall ratings compared MDMA. Objective items revealed low uses, risks, pharmacology. Primary concerns lack trained providers, financial cost, potential contraindications. Prior psychedelic use, self-rated knowledge, younger age, role predicted MDMA, reporting lower openness. As psychedelics continue garner popular scientific interest, results indicate pressing need additional formal training provide balanced, evidence-based information from trusted sources.

Limited participant diversity in mental health intervention research perpetuates disparities. This issue has become a particularly salient concern studies of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAT), which is emerging as promising intervention. systematic review evaluates the reporting, representation, and analysis sociodemographic characteristics randomized controlled trials (RCTs) PAT. A total 21 RCTs psilocybin- 3,4-methylenedioxy methamphetamine (MDMA)-assisted therapies (N = 1034) are summarized. Participants’ gender (100%) race or ethnicity (76%) were frequently reported, with socioeconomic status (SES) sometimes (57%) reported using heterogeneous metrics. Sexual orientation (9.5%) immigration (4.8%) rarely no identity. Compared to their representation US population non-psychedelic clinical trials, Black/African-American participants (12.2%) Hispanic/Latino (7.2%) significantly underrepresented PAT RCTs. MDMA enrolled more diverse samples than psilocybin trials. Analyses on treatment effects based variables virtually nonexistent. These findings underscore need for inclusive recruitment strategies, along rigorous reporting analytic practices, improve generalizability research.
