Moderating effects of insomnia on the association between urinary phthalate metabolites and depressive symptoms in Chinese college students: focus on gender differences

To investigate the rates of depressive symptoms in college students, explore relationship between urinary phthalate metabolites and their gender differences, further moderating role insomnia this association. A total 1 179 students were recruited from 2 universities Hefei Shangrao cities April to May 2019. The investigated by Patient Health Questionnaire 9 Insomnia Severity Index. high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was adapted determine concentration metabolites. generalized linear model used analyze with symptoms. Moderating analysis examine whether moderated mild depression, moderate depression above 31.9% 9.2%, respectively. exhibited a median mean spanning 2.98 ∼ 156.55 ng/mL 6.12 205.53 ng/mL. results showed that monobutyl (MBP) (β = 1.160, 95%CI: 0.423 1.896) low molecular weight (LMWP) 1.230, 0.348 2.113) positively correlated symptoms, MBP 1.320, 0.453 2.187) LMWP 1.396, 0.351 2.440) only female after stratified gender.
