Ecosystem services provide substantial benefits to people, but the underlying ecosystems are under unprecedented pressure, compromising service delivery. Therefore, ecosystem need be integrated into conservation and management processes secure their for current future generations. A key first step is a robust method map spatial planning. We aimed develop apply broadly applicable, flexible spatially accurate comprehensive mapping using Ecological Infrastructure, abbreviated PROPSER. evaluated demand, flow, capacity of three (sports events, recreation, coastal protection) along South African coast causal relationships, including ecological condition EI, approximated EI performance as measure its importance society. This resulted in high-resolution per cumulative multiple-service created by integrating single-service maps. Altogether, there were 5127 sites, with close urban nodes being most important. Post-hoc tests confirmed accuracy output maps, sensitivity PROPSER variables components indicator models. PROSPER innovative that can widely applied. The outputs from this study have been taken up national planning process, several other applications discussed. identify seven ways which advanced, encourage further testing application our approach.

Beach erosion is a complex process influenced by multiple factors operating at different spatial scales. Local (e.g., waves, tides, grain size, beach width and coastal development) regional sea level rise mean pressure) both shape processes. A comprehensive understanding of how these drivers collectively impact sandy needed. To address this on global-scale we assembled database with in-situ information key physical variables from 315 beaches covering wide morphodynamic range complemented satellite data variables. Our results revealed the combined influence local rates. Primary were anomalies in pressure variations level, such as tide range, slope width, Dean’s parameter. By analyzing characteristics, identified five distinct clusters ranging wave-dominated microtidal reflective to tide-modified ultradissipative beaches. This energy dissipation gradient emerged critical factor, rates increasing dissipativeness. study also highlighted tangible climate change patterns. Hotspots identified, where intensification pressure, onshore winds warming rates, rising levels synergistically accelerated However, found either amplify effects or enhance beach’s resistance, mitigating erosive trends initiated drivers. analysis showed that more than one-fifth analyzed are experiencing intense, extreme, severe significant role human activities explaining trends, particularly intermediate underscores long-term threat squeeze faced worldwide emphasizes need consider order understand Integrating localized measurements broader observations required for main behind evolution, which turn needed manage preserve fragile ecosystems risk.

Although extensive studies have investigated changes in regional ecosystem services (ESs) under rapid urbanization, few analyses used high-resolution image data to investigate urban wetlands. Taking the Xixi wetland region as a case area, this study aimed temporal and spatial variation influencing factors of typical ESs during 1984–2018 using images. The results showed that underwent substantial land use well different ESs. While carbon storage presented an increasing trend from 223.25 t/ha 368.11 1984 2018, other illustrated overall degradation important wetland. Evident trade-off synergy effects were observed between water yield biodiversity protection recreation cultural services. Redundancy analysis revealed detrimental impacts impervious cover on provision area. obtained highlight great challenges parks face balancing conservation sustainable use.

Ecological infrastructure plays a crucial role in strengthening the relationship between humans and environment by optimizing ecological space resource allocation urban environments. However, there are few studies on functional assessment spatial temporal evolution of its layout optimization. In this study, we developed an optimization method based ecosystem service supply, demand, flow Yantai City as study area; identified extent changes quantification multiple services; assessed whether existing could satisfy needs residents calculating supply demand indexes; used flows to optimize infrastructure. This shows that, from 2010 2018, Longkou, Zhaoyuan, Laiyang decreased, contrasting with growth peripheral areas. The found clear mismatch services, especially central areas, suggesting that was unable high-demand areas city using comparative radiation force (CERF), including 314.64 km2 environmentally beautiful village units key components City. These findings for sustainable environmental management development strategies.
