The enhancement of industrial structural refinement stands as a pivotal approach to harmonize high-quality economic development and environmental preservation. In this study, we seek assess the impact low-carbon city pilot programs on upgrading structure. Leveraging panel data encompassing 283 prefecture-level cities in China from 2006 2019, study undertakes an empirical test employing time-varying difference (DID) methodology. We further delve into examination specific mechanisms heterogeneity effects. findings are summarized follows: (1) significantly promoted supererogation structure, but did not promote rationalization This observation remains valid even after undergoing battery robustness tests. (2) propels structure by fostering green technology innovation diminishing resource dependence. Local government support positively moderates effect supererogation, while negatively moderating rationalization. Further tests reveal that local can moderate mediating innovation. (3) policy is more conspicuous eastern region, which mainly achieved via increasing intensity reducing (4) exhibits pronounced driving high-level cities, primarily through promotion These only provide evidence for industry-driven enriching assessment research policies theoretical level, also furnish reference realizing practical perspective.

The carbon emission trading system profoundly impacts enterprises’ sustainable development as an important market incentive environmental regulation tool. Through data collected from Chinese A-share listed enterprises in Shanghai and Shenzhen 2011 to 2019 Bloomberg ESG score data, this paper empirically analyses the impact of policy on enterprise performance its channel mechanism using difference-in-difference (DID) method. Results study indicate that improves significantly, robustness tests confirm these findings. Carbon can encourage enhance their R&D investments promote internal controls, ultimately enhancing performance. Additionally, positively low-carbon enterprises, where CEO is separated company, with a high degree digital transformation, receiving government subsidies. This extends our research into economic implications policy, enriching literature market-based policies’ With respect governments’ use regulate environmentally, provides theoretical guidance. It has significant practical for improving sustainability.
