Abstract The primary source of drinking water in Ethiopia's semi-arid mountainous regions is groundwater. present study aims to assess the hydrogeochemical characteristics low-grade basement rocks dominated by catchments. Moreover, it examines suitability groundwater quality for purposes Irob, Tigray, northern Ethiopia. However, relatively little known about chemistry and resources area. Fifteen samples were collected examined ions according standard procedures. outcomes assessed against World Health Organization (WHO) criteria. To identify dissolved process involved, graphic interpretations applied. results show that Ca–Mg–SO4–HCO3 Ca–SO4–HCO3 dominant types. Gibbs plots ionic ratios reveal silicate weathering, carbonate dissolution ion exchange control chemistry. Furthermore, findings 60, 80, 46.67, 6.67, 60 53.33% are above safe limits WHO hardness, alkalinity, total solids, electrical conductivity, calcium (Ca2+), potassium (K+), bicarbonate (HCO3-) sulfate (SO42-), respectively. Consequently, assessment demonstrates sources lower parts catchment unsuitable drinking.

Crop productivity relies on the quantity and quality of irrigation water, with groundwater playing a major role. Exploitation for is slowly increasing in central districts Odisha. A study was carried out these areas to assess sustainable use resources. This done by developing Water Quality Index (WQI) eight parameters. The assessed using framework that utilised entropy weight approach Technique Order Preference Similarity Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). employed determine relative proximity each solution ideal solution. TOPSIS range divided into three categories: low (less than 0.1), medium (0.1–0.5), good (0.5–0.9). low-quality category has percentage 6.45%, categorized as poor unfit drinking uses; medium-quality 52.07%, 41.47% area falls under very category. These parameters are essential when considering water usage agriculture, especially regions where farmers fertilizers pesticides extensively enhance crop production.
