In many regions of the world, lakes are key significance in purely environmental terms, but also through their relevance for human life and socio-economics activities. In this regard, activities among reasons ongoing alteration inland water bodies, as example progressive lake quality deterioration due to over-exploiting resources high pollutant loadings. In parts observed data scarce, thus better understand processes impacts, monitoring modeling should be integrated.Lake using state-of-theart models can help hindcast project impacts available sources (e.g., observed, remote sensing). This special issue is present readers a collection interdisciplinary approaches research. In total, 7 papers published issue, including total suspended solids (Chen et al., 2023), multi-approach framework estimate mass flux at sediment-water interface (Sun

The Caloosahatchee Estuary in southwest Florida, USA, is regularly subject to the introduction of toxic Microcystis aeruginosa blooms, often originating from eutrophic Lake Okeechobee via C-43 Canal. focus this study was determine responses one these introduced blooms progressively elevated salinity levels as bloom water mass moved through estuary. In upper estuary, salinities were freshwater, and surface large colonies M. observed, along with peak microcystin toxin concentrations up 107 μg L-1, all particulate fraction. mid-estuary, increased 2-6, again 259 however, significant extracellular also observed (i.e., 17.8 L-1), suggesting a level osmotic stress on aeruginosa. lower ranged 6 25 very few viable but 0.5 L-1) present throughout column. It noteworthy that average total column + extracellular) remained constant movement during its transit revealing negligible rate degradation ten-day transit. results provide insights into changes distribution gradient, which has implications for management risks ecosystem human health, how may be affected by releases three control structures Discharge rates play major roles Canal-Caloosahatchee ecosystem. potential discharge regulation are discussed perspectives allochthonous autochthonous origin.

Water quality management in shallow impounded lakes is challenging due to nutrient's enrichment and algal blooms.Lake Hongze a reservoir for the South-to-North Diversion Project's Eastern Route an essential water source Jiangsu Province, China, its closely relates local aquatic ecosystem affects supply security of surrounding areas. The spatial seasonal patterns total nitrogen, phosphorus (TP), chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) lake were investigated effects floods on these assessed.Hydrological data trophic state parameters analyzed using 7 years monitoring from 16 sampling sites throughout lake. The statistical analysis revealed variation characteristics affected by differences material transport continuity between inflow outflow boundaries.Eutrophication assessment level index Chl-a concentrations also indicated eutrophication was concentrated at southeast side lake.Spatial interpolation ordinary kriging method clarified that existence movement localized area Lake Hongze. The mass balance calculations TP substantial amount entered during flood season, however, most severe blooms occurring after season. The onset exhibits significant time lag response input, primarily influence hydrodynamic processes within season.
