The digital economy exerts both positive and negative influences on urban sustainable development, yet there is a notable gap in the existing research concerning its impact energy intensity underlying mechanisms. this study pioneers investigation of nonlinear relationship between intensity, revealing significant inverted U-shaped relationship. Specifically, we observe noteworthy reduction when index surpasses 0.286. Our empirical findings indicate that not only directly but also an indirect through initiatives such as promotion green innovation agglomeration high-tech industries. Importantly, promotional effects exhibit heterogeneity with respect to geographical location, resource endowment, scale. This paper contributes theoretical understanding information technology development by analyzing mechanisms at level intricate intensity.

Introduction This study investigates the effects of urban polycentricity and city size on total factor productivity (TFP) in Chinese cities. Methods Using high-resolution population distribution data from Landscan applying instrumental variable (IV) estimation to address endogeneity concerns, we construct a novel measure polycentricity. Results Our findings show that while expanding enhances TFP through increased economies scale, greater negatively affects by weakening agglomeration innovation spillovers. Discussion The analysis suggests reduces concentration economic activities, which hampers knowledge diffusion innovation, leading lower productivity. Additionally, identify optimal for maximizing TFP, where excessive growth beyond certain point becomes counterproductive.

In the context of “dual-carbon” goal, studying complex relationship between carbon emissions and ecosystem service values brought about by land-use change is great significance in promoting regional low-carbon optimization, territorial spatial governance, achievement goal peaking neutrality. This study takes 286 cities China as research object, based on data China’s land use value (ESV) from 2012 to 2022, adopts geo-spatial analysis techniques such autocorrelation geographically-weighted regression models temporal characteristics, degree coupling coordination, influencing factors municipal total ESV. The results show that (1) have exhibited an overall increasing trend 2022. ESV has shown a downward characterized inverted “N” shape. (2) coordination effect generally shows mirrored “L” growth (3) There significant negative correlation ESV, primarily manifested “high-high,” “high-low,” “low-low” clustering characteristics. (4) Three socio-economic factors—local fiscal general budget expenditure, energy utilization efficiency, population—positively influence Strictly controlling local population can effectively promote China's green, development ecological security.

ABSTRACT This study delves into the potential influence of China's grain trade on carbon emissions from production in 169 countries during period 2001–2020. The investigation utilizes data between China and these nations, along with corresponding production. results reveal that contributes, to a certain extent, reduction partner countries. conclusion withstands various robustness tests conducted. Heterogeneity analysis demonstrates impact driving is more notable developing Moreover, soybean emerges as particularly advantageous promoting emission trading Mechanism conducted explore further aspects indicate establishment free areas (FTAs) plays crucial moderating role trade, fostering reduction. deemed beneficial for advancing efforts reducing increased use fertilizers has intensified distribution process. findings not only offer fresh insights understanding global its but also provide strategic considerations security governance, international collaboration addressing climate change, avenues accessing green dividends.
