The significant rainfall in October 2018 northern Iran caused devastating flooding that considerable economic losses and claimed at least nine lives. Following the flooding, several bridges have suffered different levels of damage. Immediately after event, authors conducted a field investigation to study performance RC during flood. This paper presents failure modes flood-affected provides reasons for every case. results revealed scour around foundations, pier tilting, flexural piers, superstructure unseating were most observed. Pile-supported performed notably better than those with shallow foundations. In addition, observations structural integrity plays crucial role general stability flooding. Pier ductility is another parameter affects flood events. Finally, fragility curves developed based on empirical data set provided from post-flood status affected region. river flow velocity (Vs), maximum discharge (Qp), Qp normalized 10-year average (Qm) considered intensity measures analysis. correlation analyses despite Vs Qp/Qm, was not an appropriate measure generating curves.

Buildings exposed to high-intensity flood actions can experience severe damage and collapse. Rapid procedures significantly aid in identifying the most vulnerable buildings within large flood-risk areas, enabling implementation of retrofitting mitigation measures. Motivated by this need, work we propose a simplified vulnerability assessment method that employs mechanics-based approach. This strategy exclusively addresses structural is based on assigning Vulnerability Index each building. Then, considering some hazard intensity indicators, gives probable level. The main novelty proposed lies its calibration, which performed results high number numerical analyses. Results show good agreement between simulations, particularly estimating or low levels. Finally, applied case study regarding municipality Crotone, southern Italy.
