Abstract Analyzing the influence of tourism on carbon emission has significant implications for promoting sustainable development tourism. Based panel data 31 tourist cities in China from 2005 to 2022, this study utilizes a structural equation model explore reduction effect and its influencing mechanism. The results show that: (1) overall efficiency first decreased then increased, rised peak 0.923 2022. (2) Tourism positive impact efficiency, there are three paths: → environmental regulation industrial structure efficiency. (3) mainly depends direct effect, also indirectly affect structure. Environmental (4) Foreign investment lead both indirect aspects.
