Calls for humanity to 'reconnect nature' have grown increasingly louder from both scholars and civil society. Yet, there is relatively little coherence about what reconnecting nature means, why it should happen how can be achieved. We present a conceptual framework organise existing literature direct future research on human-nature connections. Five types of connections are identified: material, experiential, cognitive, emotional, philosophical. These various been presented as causes, consequences, or treatments social environmental problems. From this base, we discuss people with function treatment the global crisis. Adopting social-ecological systems perspective, draw upon emerging concept 'leverage points'-places in complex intervene generate change-and explore examples actions reconnect help transform society towards sustainability.

Abstract. Hydro-meteorological risks due to natural hazards such as severe floods, storm surges, landslides and droughts are causing impacts on different sectors of society. Such expected become worse given projected changes in climate, degradation ecosystems, population growth urbanisation. In this respect, nature-based solutions (NBSs) have emerged effective means respond challenges. A NBS is a term used for innovative that based processes ecosystems solve types societal environmental The present paper provides critical review the literature concerning NBSs hydro-meteorological risk reduction identifies current knowledge gaps future research prospects. There has been considerable scientific publications topic, with more significant rise taking place from 2007 onwards. Hence, process presented starts by sourcing 1608 articles Scopus 1431 Web Science. full analysis was performed 146 articles. confirmed numerous advancements area achieved date. These already proven be valuable providing sustainable, cost-effective, multi-purpose flexible reduction. However, there still many areas where further demonstration needed order promote their upscaling replication make them mainstream solutions.

Abstract Nature-based solutions (NBS) can protect, manage and restore natural or modified ecosystems. They are a multidisciplinary, integrated approach to address societal challenges some hazards effectively adaptively, simultaneously providing human well-being biodiversity benefits. NBS applications be easily noticed in circular cities, establishing an urban system that is regenerative accessible. This paper aims offer review on for water management from the literature relevant projects running within COST Action ‘Implementing nature-based creating resourceful city’. The method used study based detailed tracking of specific keywords using Google Scholar, ResearchGate, Academia.edu, ScienceDirect Scopus. Based this review, three main were identified: (i) flood drought protection; (ii) water-food-energy nexus; (iii) purification. shows provide additional benefits, such as improving quality, increasing biodiversity, obtaining social co-benefits, microclimate, reduction energy consumption by indoor climate. concludes systemic change should given higher priority preferred over conventional infrastructure.

Cities are facing a broad range of social and environmental challenges due to the current pressure global urbanization. Nature-based solutions aim utilize green infrastructure improve people’s health wellbeing. The design urban environments must embrace individual ideals citizens stakeholders which can only be achieved if effective methods communication, involvement, feedback ensured. Such procedure creates trust during its implementation, helping take ownership stewardship processes sites. This systematic literature review explores state art regarding citizen stakeholder participation in nature-based (NBS). search on SCOPUS database identified 142 papers total that met inclusion criteria. analysis was separated two areas: (a) perceptions, preferences, perspectives stakeholders, (b) process, including opportunities, motivations, frameworks, collaborative governance. results revealed or collaboration is increasingly recognized as promising; however, research several related domains still lacking.

Green infrastructure is a strategically planned network of natural and semi-natural areas, including green blue spaces other ecosystems, designed managed to deliver wide range ecosystem services at various scales. Apart from the ecological functions, infrastructure, as planning tool, contributes social economic benefits, leading achievement sustainable, resilient, inclusive competitive urban areas. Despite recent developments, there still no consensus among researchers practitioners regarding concept well its implementation approaches, which makes it often difficult for planners professionals in field develop robust some parts world. To address this issue, an integrative literature review was conducted identify principles should be acknowledged spatial practices promote sustainability resilience. As result review, most common eight were selected—connectivity, multifunctionality, applicability, integration, diversity, multiscale, governance, continuity. These intend simplify development use by different academic organizations provide more defined model sustainable landscape management order help decision makers during conceptualization infrastructure.
