Nature prescriptions are gaining popularity as a form of social prescribing in support sustainable health care. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to synthesise evidence on the effectiveness nature determine factors important for their success. We searched five databases from inception up July 25, 2021. Randomised non-randomised controlled studies featuring prescription (ie, referral or an organised programme, by professional, encourage spending time nature) were included. Two reviewers independently conducted all steps study selection; one reviewer collected summary data published reports risk bias assessment. Random-effect DerSimonian-Laird meta-analyses key outcomes. identified 92 unique (122 reports), which 28 contributed meta-analyses. Compared with control conditions, programmes resulted greater reduction systolic blood pressure (mean difference -4·82 mm Hg [-8·92 -0·72]) diastolic -3·82 [-6·47 -1·16). also had moderate large effect depression scores (post-intervention standardised mean -0·50 [-0·84 -0·16]; change baseline -0·42 [-0·82 -0·03]) anxiety -0·57 [-1·12 -0·03]; -1·27 [-2·20 -0·33]). increase daily step counts than conditions 900 [790 1010]) but did not improve weekly physical activity 25·90 min [-10·26 62·06]). Urban greening is a climate change-related policy with considerable health benefits. But do these benefits extend to prevention of dementia and, if so, which types green space matter? Multilevel discrete time-to-event cohort study incident Alzheimer's disease over 11 years among baseline recruited between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2009 (the Sax Institute's 45 Up Study). Sampled participants for this (N=109,688) were aged or older no record up 6 before baseline, living in the cities Sydney, Wollongong Newcastle, Australia. Exposures percentage total space, tree canopy open grass within 1.6-km road network distance buffers at baseline. Outcomes time-to-first anti-dementia medication prescription (Department Human Services) detected during hospitalisation death 31 2016 (up follow-up). analysed parallel triangulate on associations while testing bias due potential under-prescribing medications. Models adjusted person-level factors area-level socioeconomic disadvantage. Dementia detection varied by case ascertainment method. 1.55% (1,703/109,688) persons using prescribed 3.32% (3,639/109,688) via ICD-10 codes. incidence irrespective outcome measurement was lower females, younger participants, those couples, higher qualifications incomes. risk more when measured hospital records (≥30% vs <10% hazard ratio (IHR) = 0.86, 95%CI 0.75, 0.99), after adjusting factors. The opposite association observed medications used detect IHR 1.33, 1.07, 1.66). Anti-dementia medication-based also indicated (≥20% <5% 0.83, 0.67, 1.03). prescribing highest vs. lowest disadvantage tertile (29.8% 43.7%) people diagnosed dementia, indicating from geographic differences practices. Adjusting explained canopy, medication, but had negligible impact negative (i.e. potentially protective) 0.84, 0.72, 0.99). Increasing urban cover may help reduce dementia. Replication contrasting contexts mediation studies assess pathways are warranted.

There is growing interest in the ways natural environments influence development and progression of long-term health conditions. Vegetation water bodies, also known as green blue spaces, have potential to affect behaviour through provision aesthetic spaces for relaxation, socialisation physical activity. While research has previously assessed how mental wellbeing, little about relationship between these exposures outcomes over time. This systematic review summarised published evidence from longitudinal observational studies on exposure space with adults. Included were common conditions, severe conditions noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). An online bibliographic search six databases was completed July 2020. After title, abstract full-text screening, 44 eligible included analysis. Depression, diabetes obesity most frequently studied relationships. The majority indicators availability urban accessibility. Few addressed health. narrative synthesis pointed towards mixed a protective high heterogeneity measures adjustment confounding studies. Future policy should seek standardised approach measuring employ theoretical grounds confounder adjustment.

Lockdown aiming at slowing COVID-19 transmission has altered nature accessibility patterns, creating quasi-experimental conditions to assess if retracted contact and perceived deprivation influence physical emotional wellbeing. We measure through on-line survey methods (n = 529) how pandemic mandates limiting personal movement outdoor access within the United States affect self-assessed exposure, deprivation, subsequent flourishing as measured by Harvard Flourishing Index. Results indicate that strongly associates with local contact, time in nature, municipal during pandemic, after controlling for lockdown mandates, job status, household composition, sociodemographic variables. Our hypothesis is individuals strong under leads diminished wellbeing proved true. Interaction models of showed positive modification affinity age qualitative race. results demonstrate potential support individual a background context distress social isolation, important guiding public health policies beyond pandemics.

We carried out a longitudinal study on the associations between residential greenness and depression risk in urban areas Finland. Residential indicators were estimated within various buffer sizes around individuals' home locations (selected n = 14424) using time-series of normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) CORINE land cover data (CLC). individuals’ cumulative exposure to over 5-years 14-years follow-up. used doctor-diagnosed Beck Depression Inventory for assessment. Our multi-logistic model showed an inverse association depression, implying lowered individuals with higher greenness. The was particularly evident when NDVI-based (within 100 m radius) doctor-diagnosis data, adjusted individual-level covariates. odds ratio 0.56 (95% CI 0.33 0.96) follow-up, 0.54 0.30 0.98) CLC-based total green space varied across different sizes. In general, all depended type assessment, quality indicators, spatial scale analysis. also socio-demographic groups neighborhood socioeconomic disadvantage level.
