Abstract The building sector is a significant contributor to global energy consumption, necessitating the development of innovative materials improve efficiency and sustainability. Phase change material (PCM)-enhanced concrete offers promising solution by enhancing thermal storage (TES) reducing demands for heating cooling in buildings. However, challenges related PCM leakage, mechanical strength reduction, encapsulation durability hinder widespread adoption. This paper critically reviews various incorporation techniques evaluates their impact on performance structural integrity. Our findings revealed that while integration improves efficiency, it reduces strength, especially at higher content. To address these challenges, recent work emphasizes advancements technologies property optimization, focusing mitigating leakage durability. Organic types are favored applications due compatibility, though issues with control retention remain unresolved. Hence, choice technique must balance application requirements, allowable reductions, cost constraints. Moreover, lack standardized methods assess long-term PCM-composite highlights need further optimize performance.
