Abstract Frailty has been linked to inflammation and changes in body composition, but the findings are inconsistent. To explore this, we used Index (FI) definition (1) investigate association between levels of inflammatory markers (baseline) change FI score after 8 years follow-up (2) longitudinal associations markers, frailty. Home-dwelling elderly (≥ 70 years) were invited participate study re-invited a visit later. This includes total 133 participants. The included high-sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin 6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), glycoprotein acetyls (Gp-acetyls). We composition fat mass, fat-free waist circumference. consisted 38 variables. Additional clinical assessments such as blood pressure mass index (BMI), well information about daily medications, collected at both visits. Linear regression model Spearman’s rank correlation associations. showed that increased years, participants with higher hs-CRP baseline had largest score. Changes significantly correlated IL-6, circumference TNF-α. use drugs during follow-up, which may have attenuated However, elevated concentrations be associated an risk frailty subsequent years.

Abstract Global population aging poses a tremendous burden on the health care system worldwide. Frailty is associated with decreased physical reserve and considered an important indicator of adverse events in older population. Therefore, there growing interest early diagnosis intervention frailty, but cellular mechanisms responsible for frailty are still not completely understood. Chronic inflammation related to function increased disease risk. Additionally, multiple human animal studies suggest that probably plays largest role contributing frailty. Some inflammatory markers have been proposed predict However, large gaps knowledge clinical application these frail patients. understanding biological processes identifying recognized reliable urgent pivotal tasks geriatricians. In present review, we broadly summarize may potential diagnostic therapeutic use, thereby translating them into people near future.

Background/Objectives: Malnutrition and frailty are independent risk factors of prolonged hospitalization mortality, respectively. However, the combined association these conditions with mortality in hospitalized elderly patients remains unclear. Our object was to investigate malnutrition on patients. Methods: The current study a retrospective analysis 470 admitted geriatric care unit tertiary hospital Taiwan between 01 August 2019 31 March 2023. Mini Nutritional Assessment-short form Clinical Frailty Scale were used as evaluation tools for nutritional status, Patients divided into four groups based status. investigated using multivariate logistic Cox proportional hazard models adjusting potential confounders. Results: Among patients, 144 (31%) exhibited no or frailty, 146 but 46 (10%) risk, 134 (28%) both frailty. Compared neither condition, those had higher risks (odds ratio 3.23, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.68-6.12) (hazard 4.33; CI 2.01-9.34). Conclusion:: co-occurrence has significant detrimental impacts older adults. findings this emphasize importance early screening intervention among

Background Frailty is a significant concern in the field of public health. However, currently, there lack widely recognized and reliable biological markers for frailty. This study aims to investigate association between systemic inflammatory biomarkers frailty older adult population United States. Methods employed data from National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2007 2018 conducted rigorous cross-sectional analysis. We constructed weighted logistic regression models explore correlation Systemic Immune-Inflammation Index (SII), Inflammatory Response (SIRI), aged 40 80 years. Using restricted cubic spline (RCS), we successfully visualized relationship SII, SIRI, Finally, presented stratified analyses interaction tests covariates forest plot. Results involved 11,234 participants, 45.95% male 54.05% female, with an average age 64.75 ± 0.13 After adjusting relevant covariates, model indicated odds ratio (OR) 95% confidence interval(CI) natural logarithm (ln) transformed lnSII lnSIRI as 1.38 (1.24–1.54) 1.69 (1.53–1.88), respectively. Subsequently, assessed different levels lnSIRI, finding consistent results. In group model, likelihood significantly increased fourth quartile (OR = 1.82, CI: 1.55–2.12) compared second quartile. third 1.30, 1.10–1.53) 2.29, 1.95–2.70) The results indicate that income-to-poverty influence RCS demonstrated nonlinear lnSII, Conclusion this positive (SII, SIRI)

Background: Frailty is increasingly recognized as a significant health concern, particularly due to its association with cardiovascular pathologies. This study aims examine how vascular endothelial dysfunction, known premorbid stage in the pathophysiology of diseases, contributes link between illness and frailty. Methods: The inclusion criteria allowed us focus on original clinical research articles published English January 2014 2024, which reported quantitative assessments relationship frailty dysfunction. Excluded from were systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses, editorials, conference articles, theses, methodological studies using animal or cell culture models. Searches conducted electronic databases, including Scopus, ScienceDirect, Medline, up 22 2024. risk bias was assessed Joanna Briggs Institute’s critical appraisal tools. methods used present synthesize results involved data extraction categorization based biomolecular findings Results: Following application exclusion criteria, total 29 identified. Vascular dysfunction associated increased phenotypes, we also identified SGLT-2 inhibitors’ potential role an anti-fragility treatment that affects found physical markers are measures have predictive value for incident Furthermore, some shown inflammation impact frailty, innovative age-related chronic measure has been proven predict scores. Conclusions: current evidence suggests highlighting need further elucidate underlying mechanisms.

Age-related declines in muscle mass, neuromuscular, and physical function can be mitigated by resistance training (RT). Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (Ω-3 PUFAs) supplementation has shown benefits older adults. However, it remains unclear if combining Ω-3 PUFAs with RT is more effective than alone or placebo. This systematic review meta-analysis examined the effects randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of combined compared to placebo on mass healthy adults (≥65 y). Databases such as PubMed, Embase, SPORTDiscus, Web Science were searched 11 April 2024. No restriction language publication date was implemented. Mean differences (MDs) standardized mean (SMDs) 95% confidence intervals pooled calculated. Nine studies (n = 286, 54% men) met inclusion criteria. The found no significant effect neuromuscular but a large chair-rise performance. Potential impact dose, duration, sex not observed. Most had varying levels bias, none recommended quality standards for investigating PUFAs, findings suggest clear advantage RT.

Background: Vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency is a highly prevalent condition worldwide. At the same time, chronic inflammation versatile pathophysiological feature and common correlate of various disorders, including vitamin deficiency. Methods: We investigated possible association with 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25OHD3) levels its down-stream pathway by exploring D-binding protein (DBP) receptor (VDR) genes for single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), in healthy non-elderly Bahraini adults. Plasma 25OHD3 were measured chemiluminescence, six SNPs, four GC gene (rs2282679AC, rs4588CA, rs7041GT, rs2298849TC) two VDR (rs731236TC rs12721377AG) genotyped real-time PCR. The concentrations five inflammatory biomarkers, IL6, IL8, procalcitonin (PCT), TREM1, uPAR, ELISA. Results: results showed no between level any markers’ levels. However, three tested SNPs significantly associated biomarkers except IL6. TT mutant genotype rs2298849TC was lower IL8 higher PCT AA rs2282679AC decreased (p ≤ 0.001) increased TREM1 = 0.005), GG wild rs12721377AG 0.026). Conclusions: Although not system blood, it downstream, as revealed DBP genotyping. Alternatively, pursue other functions beyond pathway.
