This study investigated the effect of melatonin (MT) on postharvest storage quality passion fruit. Passion fruits were treated with four different concentrations MT solutions (100, 200, 300 and 400 μmol/L) for 30 min stored 8 days. Compared control, optimal concentration (200 treatment significantly reduced shrinkage index, browning weight loss, ethylene production, respiration rate, delayed decline firmness, total soluble solids (TSS), color, thus maintaining fruits. Exogenous enhances antioxidant activity reduces fruit oxidative damage by inhibiting increase in pericarp cell membrane permeability, malondialdehyde (MDA) content, high ascorbic acid (AsA), phenolics, flavonoids increasing superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities. These findings suggest that exogenous application is effective delaying senescence.
