The invasive raccoon (Procyon lotor) is an abundant carnivore and considered as important potential vector of infectious diseases parasites in Europe. Raccoons show a broad, opportunistic, omnivorous food spectrum. Food supply habitat quality urban areas are very attractive for the generalist raccoon. This inevitably leads to increased interaction with humans, domestic animals livestock, making potentially suitable zoonosis vector. Invasive alien species (IAS) are a threat to biodiversity and ecosystem function worldwide. Unfortunately, researchers, agencies, other management groups face the unresolved challenge of effectively detecting monitoring IAS at large spatial temporal scales. To improve detection soniferous IAS, we introduced pipeline for large-scale passive acoustic (PAM). Our main goal was illustrate how PAM can be used rapidly provide baseline information on IAS. that aim, collected data across Puerto Rico from March June 2021 single-species occupancy models investigate distribution in archipelago assess peak vocal activity. Overall, detected 16 (10 birds, 3 mammals, frogs) 79 native an extensive set with 1,773,287 1-min recordings. Avian activity peaked early morning (between 5 a.m. 7 a.m.), while amphibians between 1 Occupancy probability ranged 0.002 0.67. In general, elevation forest cover older than 54 years were negatively associated occupancy, corroborating our expectation occurrence is related high levels human disturbance present higher probabilities places characterized by more intense activities. The work presented here demonstrates workable solution vocally active over area provides reproducible workflow extended allow continued longer timeframes.

Effective management of invasive species benefits from a comprehensive understanding the species' behavior and interactions with invaded system. We investigated temporal dynamics telemetry detections potential utility traitor approach for informing response efforts to grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) population in Sandusky River, major tributary Lake Erie. The ecological impacts of invasive alien species (IAS) are increasingly documented; however, they usually studied through the lens either IAS or affected (IAS-threatened species). A clear understanding how both protagonists biological invasions characterized is still lacking. We investigated morphology, life history and ecology birds involved in invasions. Evaluating distribution 450 IAS-threatened 400 a functional space, we found that groups retained various strategies. Aliens had larger clutches were more likely to be herbivores than worldwide birds, while insular endemic from Australia region birds. showed opposite strategies aliens regarding traits related diet, origin reproduction. Further comparing associated with impact magnitude, even if mostly herbivorous, those high generalist behaviour an animal-based diet compared low impact. By emphasizing differences relating bird opened new opportunities identify role

Abstract Biological invasions remain one of the greatest threats to biodiversity and livelihoods, are predicted increase due climate change globalization. In this study, we produced a comprehensive checklist alien plants in Nigeria from online flora databases, herbarium records, published field surveys, questionnaires administered botanical gardens. The resulting was classified into naturalized, invasive, cultivated plants. We then fitted random forest model identify attributes which facilitate naturalization Nigeria. also used separate chi-squared tests investigate if frequency these is significantly different between naturalized invasive results include 1,381 plant taxa, comprising 238 190 953 species. Naturalized recorded all regions found urban agricultural landscapes. This baseline information can support further ecological studies conservation actions

Abstract BACKGROUND Invasive species are a major threat to biodiversity on global scale. Control strategies for these could be improved by understanding and exploiting life history vulnerabilities. For example, most invasive anurans require waterbodies with specific characteristics spawning; therefore, modifying influence spawning success. Asian toads ( Duttaphrynus melanostictus ) were accidentally introduced the east coast of Madagascar around 2010, have since established spread across an area exceeding 850 km 2 . To determine if select sites within their invaded range, we surveyed habitat at 30 used spawning, compared adjacent, unused waterbodies, in urban rural areas eastern Madagascar. RESULTS Toads selectively oviposited small gently sloping banks, while structure surrounding vegetation, water chemistry (salinity, temperature), presence other species, depth waterbody, substrate waterbody bank did not appear site selection. CONCLUSION Our results provide pathway examine modification potential toad as management strategy pests. © 2025 Society Chemical Industry.
