Introduction: The severity of depression symptoms in COVID-19 patients differs among populations investigated and changes over time. Increasing evidence supports the hypothesis about involvement inflammation development depression. Methods: A systematic review a meta-analysis cross-sectional cohort studies published between 2019 2023 were conducted according to PRISMA criteria. outcomes interest proportions mild, moderate, severe during after hospitalisation, associations patients. Results: Thirty articles included review. In quantitative meta-analysis, overall moderate-to-severe mild-to-severe estimated at 0.21 (95% CI: 0.13–0.31) 0.35 0.23–0.48), respectively. fixed effects model inflammatory markers showed difference with without depression, higher concentrations both C-reactive protein neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio detected people suffering mood disturbances. However, random models, findings for lost significance, on boundary significance (p = 0.053). Conclusions: According study results, proportion decreases time diagnosis. relationship is still uncertain requires further research.

ABSTRACT Emerging viral pathogens, newly reported or rapidly evolving viruses, are a significant public health concern worldwide. Beyond their characteristic clinical presentations, emerging such as monkeypox virus (MPXV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2), have been increasingly implicated in the development of various neuropsychiatric complications including depression, mainly due to ability induce neuroinflammation, immune dysfunction, neurotransmitter imbalances. Depression is common mental condition characterised by continuous low mood sadness, pessimism, anxiety, even tendency suicide main symptoms. Post depression commonly shows challenges, traditional antidepressant agents exhibit suboptimal efficacy prolonged onset action. Regarding this, ketamine its enantiomers, S‐ketamine R‐ketamine, recently received increasing attention potential options light potent effective properties. The present review describes underlying pathophysiological mechanisms associated with highlighting role neuroinflammation disturbances inneurotransmitter systems. It also discusses current evidence demonstrating effectiveness safety, especially case treatment‐resistant growing relevance for linked infections, depression. Although preliminary reports propose effectiveness, additional studies needed optimal treatment strategies, long‐term incorporation into practice. Addressing these challenges will be critical optimising ketamine‐ (S, R)‐ketamine‐containing therapeutic protocols treating infections.

Post-COVID syndrome has unveiled intricate connections between inflammation, depressive psychopathology, and cognitive impairment. This study investigates these relationships in 101 COVID-19 survivors, focusing on sex-specific variations. Utilizing path modelling techniques, we analyzed the interplay of a one-month 48-biomarker inflammatory panel, with three-months symptoms performance. The findings indicate that impairment is influenced by both inflammation depression overall cohort. However, prominent differences emerged. In females, lingering imbalance pro- anti-inflammatory responses—likely reflecting long-lasting immune alterations triggered COVID-19—significantly affects functioning shows marginal, though not statistically significant, association symptoms. suggests mixed profile may contribute to outcomes. Conversely, males, was inversely associated severity, protective effects from regulatory mediators (IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-15, LIF, TNF-α, β-NGF) against depression. appeared be driven mainly symptoms, minimal influence markers. These results highlight distinct pathways responses post-COVID-19, potentially shaped endocrine mechanisms. suggest persistent foster long-term neuropsychiatric sequelae, possibly through its brain, underscore need for sex-tailored therapeutic strategies address lasting impact COVID-19.

Immune alterations have been widely implicated in the onset, progression, and treatment of major depressive disorder. However, our comprehension intricate link between immune function psychopathology remains fragmented limited. Here we propose that interplay neural plasticity is key transition from to mental wellbeing. In particular, any deviation toward an extreme activation or suppression leads a dysregulation molecular machinery underlying plasticity. Therefore, pro–inflammatory conditions depressed patients are associated with impaired plasticity, limiting potential recover. Patient's confinement within their pathological state here referred as inflammatory trap depression. The normalization reinstates thereby restoring capacity attain Since growing evidence showing reinstating does not lead improvement per se but increases likelihood recovery, combining activity environmental promoting wellbeing critical achieve beneficial outcome. This theoretical framework allows reconcile conceptual discrepancies immunopsychiatry such egg chicken nor sufficient necessary issues. Overall, tuning system promote promising approach refine develop innovative therapeutic strategies for depression, leading personalized highly effective treatments.

Abstract The risk factors for post-COVID-19 cognitive impairment have been poorly described. This study aimed to identify the sociodemographic, clinical, and lifestyle characteristics that characterize a group of condition (PCC) participants with neuropsychological impairment. sample included 426 PCC who underwent neurobehavioral evaluation. We selected seven mental speed processing executive function variables obtain data-driven partition. Clustering algorithms were applied, including K-means, bisecting Gaussian mixture models. Different machine learning then used classifier able separate two clusters according demographic, emotional, variables, logistic regression least absolute shrinkage selection operator (LASSO) (L1) Ridge (L2) regularization, support vector machines (linear/quadratic/radial basis kernels), decision tree ensembles (random forest/gradient boosting trees). All clustering quality measures in agreement detecting only data based solely on performance. A model four (cognitive reserve, depressive symptoms, obesity, change work situation) obtained LASSO regularization was classify between good poor performers an accuracy weighted averaged precision 72%, recall 73%, area under curve 0.72. individuals lower more employment status at greater performance tasks requiring function. This article explores the interaction a prior experience with COVID-19 susceptibility to respond challenging situation low action-outcome predictability. We assessed cognitive effort readiness as willingness invest in cognitively demanding tasks. Individuals history exhibited more pronounced reduction after experiencing experimentally induced unpredictability compared controls. These results suggest generalization perceived loss control among individuals history. findings contribute conceptualizing assessing long-term consequences pandemic-induced emotional problems.
