Despite the increasing popularity of glamping structures, empirical studies often overlook carbon impact wood in these constructions, creating a significant research gap. Understanding net effect structures is crucial for informing sustainable building practices. This paper aims to quantitatively compare filling notable gap current literature. The investigation undertakes thorough evaluation employing life cycle methodology, appraising emissions linked with complete span. Seven Romanian companies are examined vertically within production chain and horizontally across supply value chain. unveils discovery: integration yields considerable sequestration, wherein employed sequesters 36.83 metric tons CO2 per unit. surpasses entailed throughout entirety cycle, ranging from 9.97 11.72 carbon. Remarkably, single wood-incorporated structure has capacity sequester approximately 25 span 50 years. In summary, underscores responsibly sourced timber function as reservoir, proficiently counterbalancing construction cycle. findings underscore importance sustainably achieving neutrality provide valuable insights promoting methodology broad applicability beyond holding potential replication scalability various sectors regions, thereby contributing global efforts towards mitigating climate change fostering positive environmental change.

Abstract The European Union (EU) set clear climate change mitigation targets to reach neutrality, accounting for forests and their woody biomass resources. We investigated the consequences of increased harvest demands resulting from EU targets. analysed impacts on national policy objectives forest ecosystem services biodiversity through empirical simulation multi-objective optimization methods. show that key timber-producing countries – Finland, Sweden, Germany (Bavaria) cannot fulfil linked ambitious 1.5°C target. Potentials increase only exists in studied region Norway. However, focusing conflicts with several policies causes adverse effects multiple biodiversity. argue role timber resources achieving societal decarbonization should not be overstated. Our study provides insight other challenged by conflicting supports policymakers.

Global pathways limiting warming to 2 °C or below require deep carbon dioxide removal through a large-scale transformation of the land surface, an increase in forest cover, and deployment negative emission technologies (NETs). Government initiatives endorse bioenergy as alternative, carbon-neutral energy source for fossil fuels. However, this neutral assumption is increasingly being questioned, with several studies indicating that it may result accounting errors biased decision-making. To address growing issue, we use budget model combined system model. We show including sequestration alleviates decarbonization effort. discuss how management strategy high capacity reduces need expensive technologies. This study indicates necessity establishing most promising before investing capture storage. Finally, describe neutrality lead decision-making because allows more biomass without constrained by biogenic CO2 emissions. The risk higher regions have lower coverage, since available cannot sink emissions short term, importing could worsen situation.

Abstract Tree monocultures constitute an increasing fraction of the global tree cover and are dominant tree‐growing strategy forest landscape restoration commitments. Their advantages to produce timber well known, but their value for biodiversity is highly controversial context dependent. Therefore, understanding whether, in which conditions, they can harbor native species regeneration crucial. Here, we conducted meta‐analyses based on a survey literature database created with local, unpublished studies throughout Brazil evaluate potential under way management influences this regeneration. Native woody harbors substantial diversity (on average 40% 68% Brazilian surveys, respectively) abundance 25% 60% observed natural forests. Plantations longer rotation lengths, composed species, located adjacent remnants more species. Pine plantations individuals than eucalypt plantations, regenerating trees higher sites mean temperatures. Species–area curves revealed that number pine 606 598 respectively, over aggregated sampled area ca. 12 ha. We highlight understory considerable at regional scales, strongly depends management. Long‐rotation length favorable location key factors success tropical monocultures. play role conservation, only if planned managed achieving purpose.
