To prevent the invasion of alien species, International Maritime Organization and United States Costal Guard require that a ballast water management system (BWMS) be installed on ships to treat before discharging it. BWMS technologies use active substances, which create disinfection by-products (DBPs) during treatment. This study compared characteristics DBPs generated in treatment commercial glucose with those algal organic matter (AOM) derived from field-collected phytoplankton using NaOCl as substance. During AOM, greater variety higher concentrations were than for glucose. For AOM freshwater, bromoform dibromoacetic acid dominant because bromine ions present phytoplankton. glucose, ratio predicted environmental concentration no-effect dibromoacetonitrile chloropicrin exceeded 1, indicating potential risk. Whole effluent toxicity (WET) testing showed chronic total DBP highest marine AOM. In addition, results WET suggested haloacetic acids (HAAs) haloacetonitriles (HANs) important indicators evaluation Therefore, evaluate risk international ports where outbreaks frequently occur, it is monitor not only but also HAA HAN concentrations.

One-Health is an umbrella term that integrates the health of environment, humans and non-human animals. This approach applied here to elucidate impact non-native invasive species on aquaculture food security. Despite inherent biases against these species, a better understanding their characteristics allows for identification those greatest concern, minimizing risk shortages infectious diseases. review summarises positive negative impacts delineating specific areas they may impact. Additionally, this gives insight expertise stakeholders would need be included if "One-Health" were implemented by policymakers control species. Detailed examples illustrate consequences trophic dynamics, ecosystem health, water chemistry, human emphasizing importance managing them within multidimensional framework. The explained, suggestions are made how certain could used contribute security in low- middle-income countries. Furthermore, recommendations promote more inclusive management strategy.

Aquatic ecosystems are under pressure due to human activity. In the summer of 2022, Odra River (Central Europe) suffered a massive death fish and mollusks. This paper aims show selected water quality parameters before during ecological disaster find which may have been crucial development this disaster. We used Kruskal–Wallis test Spearman’s correlation check parameters’ spatial temporal diversification. addition, non-metric multidimensional scaling was performed. The system were analyzed in sections: middle Odra, lower transitional waters, Szczecin Lagoon. Human activity has led formation with unusual characteristics, disturbing river’s natural continuum related processes. year 2022 differed from previous years having high temperature (>24 °C), ammonium concentrations (>4 mg/L), relatively low nitrate (<6.5 mg/L). At same time, salt pollution river very (maximum 1.4 g/L). June July we observed chlorophyll (on average 2.3 µg/L 4.4 µg/L, respectively), presumably salinity stress temperatures, suppressing freshwater phytoplankton taxa. circumstance created appropriate conditions for developing euryhaline thermophilic Prymnesium parvum. Because decaying organisms, hypoxia occurred (0.26 mg/L dissolved oxygen surface waters), worsened waters (<4 zonal deaths mollusks result multiple stressors induced by proven that it is necessary improve reduce risk such disasters. most urgent recommendations upper section nutrient inputs, condition smaller rivers feeding main course Odra.

The industry is increasingly interested applying advanced AI ML technologies to solve sustainability, efficiency, regulatory compliance issues. paper examines applications using a deep literature case study analysis. Modeling ship fuel consumption, which impacts operating expenses, top responsibility. demonstrates that approaches such as Random Forest Tweedie models can estimate use. Statistical analysis model beats regarding accuracy consistency. For training testing datasets, has high R2 values 0.9997 0.9926, indicating solid match. Low Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) average absolute relative deviation (AARD) suggest accurately reflects use variability. While still performing well, lower higher RMSE AARD values, suggesting reduced precision consumption prediction. These findings provide light on potential Advanced analytics enables decision-makers analyze patterns better, increase operational decrease environmental impact, thus improving sustainability.

ABSTRACT Nowadays, performance studies on the amperometric total residual oxidant (TRO) sensor are only in bench test stage and have not been conducted under specific maritime conditions with Ballast Water Management System (BWMS). In this study, application of TRO land-based biological efficacy (BE) testing, operation maintenance (O&M) as well shipboard (SB) was explored by comparing existing di-phenylene-diamine (DPD) sensor. The results showed that average measurement deviation between DPD within ±10% valid BE cycles O&M testing exceeding 47 operating hours. value measured exhibited significant fluctuations, but improved control logic could achieve smoothing out fluctuation, stability comparable to or even higher than practicality reliability electrochlorination-based BWMS were further verified through SB testing.
