Abstract Published results on rainwater management systems revealed a lack of holistic science-based design principles. A new approach to is proposed. Its necessity and feasibility are discussed. It demonstrated that quantitatively harvesting rainfall infiltrating fraction should be mandatory. Thus, the primary site-specific parameter intensity rainfall. Clearly, harvested used everywhere as valuable resource. Under arid semi-arid conditions large tanks maximize water storage for long dry season while under humid same helps minimize frequency emptying avoid flooding. The separates (and stormwater) from sewage has potential maintain natural hydrological cycle in urban areas despite urbanization. In already crowded slums, (RWH) can also restore cycle. advocates decentralized RWH infrastructures harvest, infiltrate, store individual residences, piping overflows semi-centralized cluster-scale tanks. Rooting integrated resource appears missing puzzle in: (i) restoring where it been disturbed (landscape restoration), (ii) avoiding flooding, mitigating soil erosion. This essential sustainable development.

A major portion of Bangladesh is currently experiencing a scarcity safe drinking water because arsenic contamination, high salinity and human-induced pollution. The objectives this study were to identify locations with suitability harvesting rainwater. Kriging interpolation algorithms Geographical Information System (GIS) was employed the probable scarce zones as well suitable rain from available data secondary sources. Statistical methods cluster, correlate, regress variables such rainfall, salinity, As. results showed that groundwater quality in southwestern parts saline concentration (>10000 μS/cm). On other hand, northeastern are also vulnerable contamination (60 %–97 % tubewells), compared regions. rainfall zonation map, covering years 1951–2022, indicated Sylhet division had highest potential for (ranging 2600 3900 mm). From it demonstrated Sylhet, Noakhali, Bhola, Barishall, Patuakhali, Bagerhat, Khulna identified places sustainable rainwater (RWH). findings may play significant role towards achieving potable supply zones, if they receive attention policymakers.

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the water quality different rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems and social acceptance their reuse in young users as an exploratory approach. Three RWH were implemented, harvested was evaluated focusing on physicochemical situ parameters. Social studied one using adapted technology model. An informative talk about operation given users, who students from a rural primary school. Surveys conducted before after impact providing information users. systems. results indicated that suitable for agriculture despite increase turbidity chloride concentrations outlet tap. concentration turbidity, phosphate phosphorus, nitrate ranged between 0.8 1.9 NTU, 0.01–0.2 mg/L, 2.8–5.0 mg/L 0.3–0.9 respectively. In study, survey correlation analyses showed crucial increasing Moreover, demonstrated are viable alternative reusing supplying arid semiarid areas.
