Various kinds waste generated from fruit industries considered global concern. By utilizing this waste, the international goal “zero waste” can be achieved by sustainable utilization these materials as rich secondary metabolites. Moreover, to overcome burden, research focused on recovering bioactive compounds obtaining new strategy combat certain diseases. The separation high-value substances including phytochemicals, dietary fibers, polysaccharides which then used functional ingredients for long-term health benefits. Several novel extraction technologies like ultrasound-assisted (UAE), pressurized liquid (PLE), supercritical fluid (SFE) could provide an alternative approach successful valuable bioactives their nutraceuticals, therapeutics, value-added products. Most waste-derived metabolites comprise polyphenols, been reported anti-inflammatory, insulin resistance-treating, cardiovascular disease-maintaining, probiotics-enhancing, or even anti-microbial anti-viral capabilities. This review summarizes current knowledge by-products pharmacological, biological, probiotic applications highlights several methods identifying efficacious wastes.

Ascorbate peroxidase (APX) is one of the enzymes ascorbate-glutathione cycle and key enzyme that breaks down H2O2 with aid ascorbate as an electron source. APX present in all photosynthetic eukaryotes from algae to higher plants and, at cellular level, it localized subcellular compartments where generated, including apoplast, cytosol, plastids, mitochondria, peroxisomes, either soluble form or attached organelle membranes. activity can be modulated by various post-translational modifications tyrosine nitration, S-nitrosation, persulfidation, S-sulfenylation. This allows connection metabolism other relevant signaling molecules such NO H2S, thus building a complex coordination system. In both climacteric non-climacteric fruits, plays role during ripening process post-harvest, since participates regulation levels affecting fruit quality. Currently, exogenous application NO, H2O2, more recently, melatonin seen new alternative maintain extend shelf life quality fruits because they modulate well antioxidant systems. Therefore, these are being considered biotechnological tools improve crop horticultural industry.

Banana ranks as the fifth most cultivated agricultural crop globally, highlighting its crucial socio-economic role. The banana’s health-promoting benefits are correlated with composition in bioactive compounds, such phenolic compounds. Thus, present study attempts to evaluate potential health of banana content by combing analytical and silico techniques. Particularly, total antioxidant/antiradical activity samples during ripening were determined spectrophotometrically. In parallel, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) analysis was implemented unravel variations profile ripening. Chlorogenic acid emerged a marker banana, while apigenin naringenin abundant unripe fruit. further step, binding elucidated phytochemicals examined utilizing molecular target prediction tools. Human carbonic anhydrase II (hCA-II) XII (hCA-XII) enzymes identified promising targets inhibitory affinity compounds predicted through docking studies. Among the insect species reared as alternative protein sources, Hermetia illucens (black soldier Fly, BSF) has shown a huge potential mostly due to its high content, bioconversion rates, and versatility in using different feeding substrates. Insect rearing may use continuous or batch regimes and, among used substrates, supermarket feedstock waste gained recent interest under circular economy perspective, but several uncertainties remain regarding heterogeneity effects of quantity quality these substrates on BSF larvae (BSFL) development. In this experimental work, five replicates hundred BSFL were fed regime, seven isolated vegetables (wheat bran, pumpkin, apple, grape pomace, red onion, cabbage, spinach), at three temperatures (20, 25, 30 °C) two substrate moisture conditions (natural 70% moisture), until 50% achieved prepupal stage. performance parameters evaluated. Our results show that some should be avoided when feedstocks. these, apple feed led poorer slower development performances with more than 100 days larval stage, while pomace spinach showed higher mortality which anti-nutritional compounds. Larvae onion presented good values efficiency conversion digested between 14.4 25. This work delivers relevant for black fly system vegetable their trade-offs.
