Abstract Carbon dots (CDs)‐based zero‐dimensional nanomaterials with dimensions ranging from 1 to 10 nm have shown tremendous potential in the application of regenerative medicine, because their unique physicochemical properties and favorable attributes like good biocompatibility, biological functions, low cost high stability. These newly synthesized CDs‐based could replace traditional semiconductor quantum dots, which obvious toxicity drawbacks higher costs. CDs not only show sustained fluorescent quality but also serve as superior carriers for drug delivery, well bioimaging‐guided detection cells, drugs, growth factors. So, they been play a role various fields such chemical sensing, bioimaging, photocatalysis. Thus, are considered candidates medicine applications. In this review, we provide comprehensive summary classification CDs, focusing on formation mechanisms, micro‐/nanostructures, distinctive properties. We describe synthesis methods detail. Furthermore, systematically highlight recent remarkable advances applications bone cartilage repair, wound healing, nerve regeneration, myocardial highlighted.
