Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), sourced autologously, offer numerous advantages when procured: easier acquisition process, no in vitro amplification needed, decreased intervention and overall increased acceptability make PBMC an attractive candidate for cell therapy treatment. Abstract The development of in vitro models is essential for a comprehensive understanding and investigation pulmonary fibrosis (PF) at both cellular molecular levels. This study presents literature review an analysis various used scientific studies, specifically focusing on their applications elucidating the pathogenesis PF. Our highlights importance taking approach to studing PF, emphasizing necessity considering multiple cell types organs integrating diverse analytical perspectives. Notably, primary cells demonstrate remarkable growth characteristics gene expression profiles; however, limited availability, maintenance challenges, inability continuous propagation susceptibility phenotypic changes over time significantly limit utility investigation. By contrast, immortalized lines are easily accessible, cultured continuously propagated, although they may have some differences from cells. Furthermore, coculture offer more practical precise method explore complex interactions among cells, tissues organs. Consequently, when developing researchers should thoroughly assess advantages, limitations relevant mechanisms different ensure selection consistent with research objectives.
