Background: In recent years, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) has been applied to different psychiatric conditions beyond post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an increasing number of studies have evaluated its effect on depression. To date, no quantitative synthesis the efficacy EMDR depression conducted. Objective: meta-analytically review for as primary target treatment.Method: Studies with a controlled design evaluating were searched six electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Cochrane database, Francine Shapiro Library) then selected by two independent reviewers. A systematic meta-analysis was conducted. Results: Eleven included qualitative synthesis. Nine in meta-analysis, involving 373 participants. The overall size depressive symptoms is large (n = 9, Hedges' g – 1.07; 95%CI [–1.66; 0.48]), high heterogeneity (I2 84%), corresponds 'number needed treat' 1.8. At follow-up (range 3–6 months), remains significant but moderate 3, 0.62; [–0.97; 0.28]; I2 0%). compared active controls also 7, 0.68; [–0.92; 0.43]; No publication bias found, although results are limited small poor methodological quality studies. Conclusions: Review findings suggest that may be considered effective treatment improving depression, effects comparable other treatments. However, need interpreted light their quality. Further research required understand longer-term treating preventing relapse.Protocol registration: PROSPERO (CRD42018090086).

This culminates stress-system activation or dysregulation aberrant changes neural network function. In pediatric neurology clinics, represents up one-fifth patients. Current research shows good outcomes prompt diagnosis biopsychosocial, stepped-care approach. At present, however—and worldwide—FND services are scarce, result long-standing stigma ingrained belief that do not suffer from real (“organic”) they therefore require, even deserve, treatment. Since 1994, Mind-Body Program at The Children’s Hospital Westmead Sydney, Australia—run by consultation-liaison team—has delivered inpatient hundreds outpatient others. For less-disabled patients, program enables community-based clinicians biopsychosocial locally providing positive (by neurologist pediatrician), assessment formulation team), physical therapy assessment, clinical support (from team physiotherapist). this Perspective we describe elements mind-body intervention capable providing, as needed, effective FND. People with intellectual disabilities (ID) are at increased risk for developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Emerging evidence indicates that Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is feasible potentially effective this group. However, communication, cognition, stress regulation, attachment difficulties may interfere the EMDR process. Adaptation of protocol seems therefore required population.

Participants show significant reduction CRIES-8 (t = 44.8; p < 0.001, effect size 2.63) CPDS 38.2; 2.24). G-TEP with reduced scores 49.2; 2.55) 57.2; 2.97). A Student's t-test comparing groups shows no difference between types pre- post-treatment 1.744; 0.514, 0.040) 1.688; 0.092, 0.323).
