Background There is growing evidence for the role of circadian factors in adolescents' sleep and academic adjustment, with greater evening preference being linked to poorer functioning. However, studies have yet evaluate this association prospectively adolescence, nor examined daytime sleepiness as a putative mechanism linking poor The current study used multi‐informant design test prospective preference, sleepiness, functioning (e.g., global impairment grades) across 2 years adolescence. As problems are elevated adolescents ADHD, we sample enriched ADHD explored whether moderated effects. Method Participants were 302 ( M age = 13.17 years; 44.7% female; 81.8% White; 52% ADHD). In fall eighth grade, reported on their ninth parents completed ratings sleepiness. middle 10th teachers at end grade point average (GPA) was obtained from school records. Results Above beyond covariates adolescent sex, status, medication, duration) baseline impairment, self‐reported 8th predicted increased parent indirectly via 9th grade. Furthermore, teacher lower GPA controlling GPA. status did not moderate indirect Conclusion Findings underscore possible intervening Intervention needed targeting improves adolescents.

Abstract Purpose of Review Social media use (SMU) and other internet-based technologies are ubiquitous in today’s interconnected society, with young people being among the commonest users. Previous literature tends to support that SMU is associated poor sleep mental health issues youth, despite some conflicting findings. In this scoping review, we summarized relevant studies published within past 3 years, highlighted impacts on while also examined possible underlying mechanisms involved. Future direction intervention rational was discussed. Recent Findings Both cross-sectional longitudinal cohort demonstrated negative health, preliminary evidence indicating potential benefits especially during COVID period at which social restriction common. However, limited research has hindered establishment directionality causality association SMU, sleep, health. Summary have made advances a more comprehensive understanding impact public importance will contribute improving outcomes promoting beneficial SMU. should include implementation representative samples investigate complex relationships health; validated questionnaires objective measurements; design randomized controlled interventional trials reduce overall problematic ultimately enhance youth.

Abstract Study Objectives Sleep disturbance may cause suicidal ideation (SI). This study aimed to examine their co-occurrence rate among adolescents and investigate whether psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) mediate this association. Methods A total of 17 722 Chinese were included in two-wave longitudinal study. The baseline survey (time 1, T1) was conducted between April 21 May 12, 2021, the follow-up 2, T2) implemented December 26, 2021. At T1, participants completed questionnaires assess sleep disturbance, duration, PLEs, SI, depressive symptoms, sociodemographic characteristics. T2, reported negative life events. Results SI prevalence decreased from 20.2% (T1) 18.4% (T2). Participants with showed significantly higher short duration compared those without SI. Baseline both associated increased risk 6 months later. These links mediated by independent covariates Conclusions findings provide a novel insight into mechanism linking problems suicidality, stress significance assessing addressing PLEs for adolescent suicide prevention intervention.

The consists 47 questions on daytime rhythm, health, mental wellbeing, life habits, socioeconomic situation before during pandemic, conditional those reporting having had coronavirus infection, being vaccinated, or suffering from particular sleep symptoms disorders. Surveys will be administered online May November 2021 Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Sweden USA. Summary Insomnia displays heterogeneous trajectories across adolescence, which may induce addictive behaviours, including internet gaming disorder and substance use. This study aimed to investigate the latent trajectory classes of insomnia symptoms over 2 years examine associations between these behaviours. Participants were 910 adolescents from six middle schools in Shanghai, China (52.7% males; mean age = 13.17 years). The three‐wave survey measured symptoms, disorder, use, depressive sociodemographic characteristics 7th 9th grade. Latent class growth modelling was performed identify symptoms. Then multivariable logistic regressions conducted within best‐fitting model with Two recognised: non‐insomnia group (71.8%) (28.2%). In analysis controlling for baseline demographic variables had a higher risk developing (OR 2.203 [95% CI: 1.258–3.858]) use 2.215 1.324–3.705]) compared group. These findings add growing body research on during suggesting that intervention strategies are needed target or developmental patterns different subgroups. ultimate goal is mitigate impact adolescent
