Symptoms of emotional regulation disorders, such as those related to anxiety are one the main challenges public among young people. This study validated Spanish Generalized Anxiety Disorder Assessment-7 (GAD-7) scores in a representative sample adolescents. A total 2235 students (M = 14.49 years; SD 1.76; 52.9 % women), selected by stratified random sampling from 34 schools, participated survey. The unidimensional model GAD-7 showed adequate goodness-of-fit indices. Scalar measurement invariance was found gender and age. reliability score 0.90. positively associated with symptoms depression, negative affect, behavioral problems, negatively positive affect quality life. Abstract Purpose An increase in excessive Internet use (EIU) among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic was suggested many studies. However, these studies were mostly based on cross-sectional and/or unrepresentative samples. Methods Using data from a nationwide Finnish school survey years 2017, 2019 and 2021 ( N = 450,864; aged 13–20 years), changes prevalence of EIU (EIUS, 5-item) assessed. The effects (year vs. 2017/2019 combined) linear trend analyzed logistic regression models. Models adjusted for loneliness, depression, anxiety, sociodemographic factors. Results Among males, varied minimally (7.8–8.1%) 2017 to 2021. females, increased 6.8 11.7% effect significant (OR 1.53; p < 0.001). Including model turned females non-significant 0.625), whereas 1.17; Adjusting models with mental health-related factors attenuated some extent, but not trend. Conclusions There is sex difference way developed adolescents. In there no indication while first found, it also be product already started before pandemic. These results are contrast earlier suggesting an EIU.
