Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use has become increasingly prevalent among US youth and young adults in recent years. Exposure to e-cigarette marketing may stimulate use. In this study, we estimated the longitudinal association between exposure experimentation adult never tobacco users. The analysis included nationally representative samples of (ages 12-17; n = 8121) 18-24; 1683) users from wave 2 (2014-2015) 3 (2015-2016) Population Assessment Tobacco Health Study. researchers measured past-month through various places (eg, Web sites events) at 3. Statistical multivariable regressions examine associations experimentation. At 2, 70.7% 73.9% reported marketing; 3, 4.9% 4.5% experimented with e-cigarettes, respectively. Youth exposed were more likely (adjusted odds ratio 1.53, 95% confidence interval 1.07-2.17; adjusted 2.73, 1.16-6.42, respectively) have e-cigarettes than those not exposed. Marketing each place was associated 3.E-cigarette predicted subsequent users. Increased restrictions on channels help minimize their messages.

Abstract Introduction The prevalence of electronic cigarette (EC) use has risen dramatically among adolescents and young adults (AYA, ages 12–26) over the past decade. Despite extensive established relationships between combustible mental health problems, comorbidities EC remain unclear. Aims Methods To provide a systematic review existing literature on AYA. Database searches using search terms related to EC, AYA, identified 1168 unique articles, 87 which prompted full-text screening. Multiple authors extracted data, applied Effective Public Health Practice Project Quality Assessment Tool evaluate evidence, synthesized findings. Results Forty articles met eligibility criteria (n = 24 predominantly adolescent 16 adult). Analyses yielded three main categories focus: internalizing disorders (including depression, anxiety, suicidality, eating disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder), externalizing (attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder conduct transdiagnostic concepts (impulsivity perceived stress). Significant methodological limitations were noted. Conclusions Youth is associated with greater problems (compared nonuse) across several domains, particularly adolescents. Because many studies are cross-sectional, directionality remains uncertain. Well-designed longitudinal investigate long-term sequelae needed. Implications recent demonstrate variety AYA use, Mental generally parallel those few exceptions. Future prevention treatment strategies may be enhanced by addressing health.
