Economic Insecurities and Mental Health Among Low-Income Pregnant People in the Central Valley Region of California

The association between economic insecurity and mental health among low-income pregnant people is understudied. We examined the relationship perinatal stress, anxiety, depressive symptoms a low-income, racially/ethnically diverse study population, differentiated associations by nativity status. used cross-sectional data from EMBRACE Study that enrolled Medi-Cal (California's Medicaid program) eligible in Central Valley region of California. Economic was assessed through measures food insecurity, low financial well-being, inability to pay an emergency expense, bills, fear eviction, history homelessness. these with perceived stress (Perceived Stress Scale), generalized anxiety (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7), (Patient Health Questionnaire-9), adjusting for age, status, education level. also effect measure modification Latinx population. report estimated differences 95% confidence intervals each exposure outcome. In our sample 674 participants, we observed health. Among 24 models, 15 showed medium large effects (>0.35 standard deviation differences) only three negligible sizes. Across all outcomes, stronger U.S.-born compared their foreign-born (93% Mexico-born) counterparts. found experience significant insecurities may impact adversely. Programs increase supports during pregnancy serve as important maternal interventions, especially racial/ethnic minoritized groups.

Introduction: The proposal to administer cuts for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) could create deficiencies in nutrition already food insecure, low-income Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color (BIPOC) pregnant, postpartum women, children. WIC is a US Department Agriculturefunded nutritional program infants, current cut funding by $800 million 2024 fiscal year, affecting 75% its recipients predominantly BIPOC. Differing Within-Household Food Security Statuses Are Associated with Varied Maternal Mental Health Outcomes

Household food insecurity is not necessarily equally experienced by all household members, with mothers often changing their intake first when resources are limited. The purpose of this study was to understand the association between maternal mental health and intrahousehold differences in security statuses. Risk Factors for Food Insecurity among Early Childhood Education Providers: Time for a Solution

The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated challenges in the child care industry, leading to closures and financial strain. Early education (ECE) providers faced reduced income, increased debt, material hardships such as food insecurity. Using survey data collected through Child Care Resource Center (CCRC), this study examines association between insecurity risk, sociodemographic factors, pandemic-related service changes among ECE California. results showed that race, costs were significantly associated with a higher risk of providers. Compared incomes greater than USD 60,000, those earning 40,000–USD 49,999 50,000–USD 59,999 had odds (OR: 1.94, 95% CI: 0.683–1.86; OR: 2.12, 0.623–1.81, respectively). Black 1.89, 1.21–2.94) multi-racial respondents 1.71, 1.1–2.65) white respondents. Lastly, experiencing 4.52, 2.74–7.45).
