As a class of persistent pollutants that are easily bioaccumulatable and highly biotoxic, chlorinated organic exist in the environment pose substantial threat to ecological safety. The electrocatalytic hydrodechlorination (EHDC) technology shows advantages high efficiency, simple operation, mild reaction conditions, no secondary pollution thus promises good application prospect treatment chlorine-containing pollutants. Pd-based catalysts considered most efficient for electroreductive dechlorination far, yet reserves Pd scarce, price is often prohibitively high. development noble metal with atom utilization non-noble EHDC has become hot research topic, but relevant reviews still lacking. In this paper, progress on during recent years reviewed influence catalyst microstructure regulation performance discussed detail. strategies including mechanisms electronic effect, support size coordination effect enhancing at different scales (from nanostructures single atoms) summarized proposed, which could provide guidance from atomic scale. At end review, prospects challenges also discussed.

Design and preparation of low-cost, effective, novel catalysts are important topics in the field heterogeneous catalysis from academic industrial perspectives.
