Abstract Nanoporous carbons with tailorable nanoscale texture and long-range ordered structure are promising candidates for energy, environmental catalytic applications, while the current synthetic methods do not allow elaborate control of local structure. Here we report a salt-assisted strategy to obtain crystalline nanocarbon from direct carbonization metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). The product maintains highly two-dimensional (2D) stacking mode substantially differs traditional weakly patterns nanoporous upon high-temperature pyrolysis. MOF-derived (MCC) comes high level nitrogen oxygen terminating 2D layers shows an impressive performance as carbocatalyst in Fenton-like reaction water purification. successful preparation MCC illustrates possibility discover other heteroatom-doped carbon phases starting correctly designed organic precursors appropriate templating reactions.
