Nowadays, Nature-Based Solutions (NBSs) are developing as innovative multifunctional tools to maximize urban ecosystem services such storm water preservation, reduction of runoff and flood protection, groundwater pollution prevention, biodiversity enhancement, microclimate control. Gdańsk is one the first Polish cities widely introduce rain gardens (one example an NBS) in different areas parks, city center, main crossroads, car parks. They involve technical innovations individually tailored local architecture, including historic buildings spaces. The swift growth of cities worldwide poses significant challenges in ensuring a sufficient water, energy, and food supply. Nexus has innovated valuable systems to address these challenges. However, crucial issue is the potential for pollution resulting from systems, which directly indirectly impacts public health overall quality urban living. This study comprehensively reviews interconnected water-energy-food (WEF) nexus various forms cities. primary focus this review article showcase findings WEF studies regarding pollutions across different geographical regions spatial scales. It aims examine problems pollutions, specifically their effects on human life. also delves into sources as identified studies. Furthermore, will highlight proposed solutions research aimed at effectively mitigating each sector studied. systematic analyses Scopus database. extensively reviewed 2463 peer-reviewed published articles focused explicitly related that discussed pollution. Biodiversity underpins the functioning of ecosystems and diverse benefits that nature provides to people, yet is being lost at an unprecedented rate. To halt or reverse biodiversity loss, it critical understand complex interdependencies between key drivers sectors inform development holistic policies actions. We conducted a literature review on interlinkages climate change, food, water, energy, transport health ("the nexus"). Evidence extracted from 194 peer-reviewed articles was analysed assess how influenced by influencing other nexus elements. ABSTRACT Despite increased understanding and adoption of nature‐based solutions (NBSs) within urban coastal areas, large‐scale NBS for fluvial flood mitigation remain challenging to study implement. A stronger evidence base is needed identify critical research gaps best inform the design deployment on watershed scale. We synthesize performance co‐benefits based a systematic review 131 peer‐reviewed papers worldwide, developing an Ecosystem Focus Type (EFT) compare across NBS. Currently, the world is facing resource scarcity as environmental impacts of human intervention continue to intensify. To facilitate conservation and recovery ecosystems transform cities into more sustainable, intelligent, regenerative, resilient environments, concepts circularity nature-based solutions (NbS) are applied.
