In the next twenty years, scarcity of food shortage and drinking water will appear in Egypt due to growth industries agriculture. This paper develops a conceptual design new technologies field water–energy–food cities. Border lines are internal relationship, external influence, linkage system evaluation for WEF nexus. The major problems using fossil energy desalination emissions non-renewability, as well preference dispersed freshwater production instead concentrated output. that is integrated with renewable energies critical these days. type can also reduce environmental pollutants reduced consumption transfer freshwater. GIS data from United Nations have confirmed existence an underground reservoir Wadi-Dara cultivate 1000 acres smart farming techniques reach circular economy solution between water–energy possibility cultivating hundred on Red Sea coast exists, through which about one million people could be settled. this comprehensive review, we conducted deep study order establish sustainable lifestyle Dara Valley region terms availability potable water, clean energy, Sustainable solutions were seawater beach sand filtration wells pretreatment e.g., wind (18% turbines), photovoltaic panels (77% PV panels). Strategic cultivated includes open ponds cultivation microalgal cells synthesis (5.0% bio-fuel (. Aqua agriculture aquaponics marine culture integrate mangrove, shrimp aquaculture. A municipal waste treatment conceived irrigation shrubby forests landscapes. Mixotrophic cultures explored achieve sustained ecological balance. Food, poultry animal management, cooker factory, included overall design. impact assessment (EIA) shows low risk anticipated net zero emissions, 75% green city, optimal recycling. research assists combining efforts address challenging processes nexus build resilient systems.

Nowadays, Nature-Based Solutions (NBSs) are developing as innovative multifunctional tools to maximize urban ecosystem services such storm water preservation, reduction of runoff and flood protection, groundwater pollution prevention, biodiversity enhancement, microclimate control. Gdańsk is one the first Polish cities widely introduce rain gardens (one example an NBS) in different areas parks, city center, main crossroads, car parks. They involve technical innovations individually tailored local architecture, including historic buildings spaces. Gdańskie Wody, which responsible for management city, adopted a pioneering strategy started construction garden 2018. Currently, there dozen this organisation's policy stipulates NBSs new housing estates without building rainwater drainage. Various types can be created depending on location characteristics geo-hydrology, well conditions needs. Furthermore, each them might equipped with specific solutions improve garden's function - example, oil separator or setter included absorb initial, most polluted runoff. During winter, large amount sodium chloride usually used grit roads may pose greatest threat plants. These installations have been Gdańsk, located central reservation streets center. This work presents various considerations their impact functions, circularity challenges provided by operating technologies surroundings. The precipitation quantity following infiltration rate were estimated installing pressure transducers. mitigation heat island was analysed based remote sensing images.

The swift growth of cities worldwide poses significant challenges in ensuring a sufficient water, energy, and food supply. Nexus has innovated valuable systems to address these challenges. However, crucial issue is the potential for pollution resulting from systems, which directly indirectly impacts public health overall quality urban living. This study comprehensively reviews interconnected water-energy-food (WEF) nexus various forms cities. primary focus this review article showcase findings WEF studies regarding pollutions across different geographical regions spatial scales. It aims examine problems pollutions, specifically their effects on human life. also delves into sources as identified studies. Furthermore, will highlight proposed solutions research aimed at effectively mitigating each sector studied. systematic analyses Scopus database. extensively reviewed 2463 peer-reviewed published articles focused explicitly related that discussed pollution. Our emphasizes, firstly, raising awareness about link between nexus, pollution, environments, among policymakers key stakeholders, including planners, industry partners municipalities. promote development policies encourage sustainable practices stakeholders. Secondly, it evaluates methods findings, aiding identifying gaps technological innovation potential, well enhancing decision-making. Lastly, outlines future challenges, providing roadmap researchers advance understanding domain identify opportunities resource efficiency collaboration sectors.

Biodiversity underpins the functioning of ecosystems and diverse benefits that nature provides to people, yet is being lost at an unprecedented rate. To halt or reverse biodiversity loss, it critical understand complex interdependencies between key drivers sectors inform development holistic policies actions. We conducted a literature review on interlinkages climate change, food, water, energy, transport health ("the nexus"). Evidence extracted from 194 peer-reviewed articles was analysed assess how influenced by influencing other nexus elements. Out 354 elements, 53 % were negative, 29 positive 18 contained both negative influences. The majority studies provide evidence influence elements biodiversity, highlighting substantial damage inflicted human activities. main types impacts land water use/change, degradation, direct species fatalities through collisions with infrastructure. Alternatively, having limited effects invasive alien vector-borne diseases. Furthermore, range provided can have influences each practices promote co-benefits. These included biodiversity-friendly management in relevant sectors, protection restoration essential ecosystem services, green blue infrastructure including nature-based solutions, sustainable healthy diets mitigate change. highlighted complexity context-dependency within nexus, but clearly demonstrates importance underpinning resilient well-being ensuring future for people planet.

ABSTRACT Despite increased understanding and adoption of nature‐based solutions (NBSs) within urban coastal areas, large‐scale NBS for fluvial flood mitigation remain challenging to study implement. A stronger evidence base is needed identify critical research gaps best inform the design deployment on watershed scale. We synthesize performance co‐benefits based a systematic review 131 peer‐reviewed papers worldwide, developing an Ecosystem Focus Type (EFT) compare across NBS. While we find that can mitigate floods all EFTs, our also highlights inconsistencies in measurement methods, dearth empirical case studies, large variability reported values limit generalization comparison Co‐benefits are numerous, but few quantified, methods vary with regard specific Social benefits NBS, including communities most need support, infrequently part these studies. There clear develop common standards guidance which measures key consider monitor co‐benefits. The success will depend practice guided by transdisciplinary systems thinking approaches deliver evidence‐based, community‐driven outcomes.

Currently, the world is facing resource scarcity as environmental impacts of human intervention continue to intensify. To facilitate conservation and recovery ecosystems transform cities into more sustainable, intelligent, regenerative, resilient environments, concepts circularity nature-based solutions (NbS) are applied. The role NbS within green infrastructure in urban resilience recognised, considerable efforts being made by European Commission (EC) achieve sustainability goals. However, it not fully evidenced, an integrated way, which main implemented environment their effects. This article aims identify most recent applied environments at level analyse integration different measures innovative analysis based on real cases. For this purpose, work presents a literature review 69 projects 24 cities, well 8 actions 3 spatial scales implementation district level. Therefore, there great potential for adoption buildings surroundings, still prioritized, given lack effective monitoring effects NbS.
