Previous research has established that an effective way to fight fuel poverty is increase levels of energy efficiency in residential buildings. A different strand shown the adoption measures more likely if people have high financial literacy. We combine these two strands by conducting a new survey among Irish homeowners and directly analysing association between literacy poverty. Given renovation not always economically viable, we also investigate drivers other strategies cope with prices, such as switching household's supplier using direct debit payments. While our results confirm associated lower poverty, at least for some measures, find no evidence link people's level their homes. only weak negative several related aspects data. low overall household income strongly higher prevalence subjective likelihood engage cost mitigation strategies, see administrative challenges insurmountable barriers retrofit process. Policy aiming reduce or should therefore all focus on low-income households.

This manuscript explores the relationship between economic awareness (as a part of energy awareness) Polish households and their sustainable consumption practices. Sustainable is measured by frequency behaviors such as turning off electrical devices when not in use, removing mobile device chargers from sockets, switching lights leaving room, preferring showers over baths, using washing machines dishwashers only full, purchasing energy-efficient appliances light bulbs. Economic gauged through variables knowledge electricity tariffs, understanding electric bill components, prices, exact expenses, usage kWh, effective energy-saving methods, familiarity with efficiency classes study presents profiles high low regarding expenditures examines how these differ behaviors. research based on survey 1407 conducted online 2023. Data collected were subjected to statistical analysis are presented tables graphs. The findings discussed context existing literature field, highlighting implications contributes influences among households, providing insights for policymakers conservation initiatives. One key this paper significant association awareness, knowledge, adoption households. reveals that higher levels demonstrate notably practices related compared those lower awareness. Similarly, equipped greater about techniques exhibit propensity adopt underscores important roles literacy education fostering behavioral changes towards more practices, importance targeted interventions educational campaigns aimed at enhancing promoting consumers.

The research conducted in this paper aims to examine the role of energy innovations, digital technological transformation, and environmental performance enhancing sustainable economic development European Union (EU) countries, widely shaped by globalization process. An advanced empirical analysis is configured on a cross-sectional dataset EU-27 Member States compiled at level 2018 based several modern econometric procedures, namely robust regression, structural equation modelling (SEM) network through Gaussian graphical models (GGM). We apply procedures firstly identify assess direct, indirect, total interlinkages between all considered variables, as well their further cumulated spillover impact development. EU countries are afterward clustered according Ward method inset hierarchical clustering for an in-depth assessment tailored policy design accounting financial trade (captured KOF Index Globalization), sustainability Environmental Performance Index—EPI), degree integration technologies (proxied Digital Economy Society Index—DESI). Main results highlight that there significant beneficial effects induced increased transformation with notable differentiation among them. Policy guidelines strategic directions also enhanced largely presented within paper.

The prevalence of energy poverty as a major challenge in numerous countries, the escalating crisis that generates supply fears and increased prices, need to build just supporting mechanisms within net zero transition add impetus improving our ability accurately predict vulnerable households. In Europe, this is hindered by limited recognition fact households are not necessarily income poor (and vice versa). Artificial Intelligence, machine learning techniques particular, may be applied improve efficient targeting schemes, enabling accurate prediction via objective, publicly available data. However, such applications still limited, especially across large number countries. response above, we develop an innovative framework for fair all current members European Union United Kingdom. While explore various algorithms, most analysis performed using Random Forest classifier. Our approach beyond reveals household-level country-level predictors poverty, dwelling condition, efficiency, social protection payments gas supplier switching rates. We also demonstrate how algorithms can offer straightforward visualization mechanism determines classification, alleviation schemes transparent assisting policy-makers setting more effective thresholds assistance allocation. Furthermore, evaluate potential fairness basing their solely on income-relevant or welfare-relevant criteria would ineffective result significant numbers being excluded from assistance.

Cogeneration systems have been identified as a way to reduce primary energy consumption, especially the ones using fossil fuels. Although this technology has already reached maturity on medium-to-large scale, it is not very well explored micro-scale, at residential level where market currently filled with carbon-fueled boilers and combi-boilers. For implementation level, organic Rankine cycle mentioned suitable because of its simplicity thermal/ electrical efficiencies. Despite performance, one most important aspects these applications response time, which mainly connected system's control. Due influence, study aims provide insights for developing flexible control strategies analyze two different methodologies, standard PID Fuzzy Logic controller, considering operating conditions an experimental ORC-based micro-cogeneration test rig. Before being implemented in rig, both methodologies were optimized tested virtual environment order avoid exposure rig unsafe conditions. While controllers show reasonable similar used environment, approach proved be more adaptable changes dynamics, are caused by intrinsic (e.g., unpredicted evaporative phenomena) or external disturbances pressure ratio variation), obtaining overall better performance. Additionally, limitations static complex nonlinear processes, like ORC, highlighted their incapacity stabilize system when fluid diverted from bypass line expansion valve. Conversely, was concluded that ability incorporate expert knowledge heuristics makes controller well-suited ORC uncertain, unstable, fluctuating behavior.
