Prominent among problems of developing nations are access to affordable and reliable energy as well clean livable environment. The abovementioned points coincide with the sustainable development goals 7 (SDG 7) 11 11) United Nations (UN), respectively. Adopting waste-to-energy system could leverage on possibility reducing adverse environmental impact occasioned by waste generation ensuring production renewable while achieving circular economy. A review most commonly used technologies for solid management worldwide, such incineration, pyrolysis, gasification, anaerobic digestion, landfilling gas recovery in order achieve nexus is presented. brief discussion economic, social implementation levels, some challenges possible solutions mentioned both developed countries included. This paper also addresses (WtE) a contributor development. It evident from this that stream contained 50–56% food garden wastes making digestion technology more appropriate treatment. Incineration widely adopted than 1,700 incineration plants operational worldwide. offers add pool literature helping researchers decision-makers make an informed decision feasibility WtE pathway generation.

Food waste reduction and security are the main concerns of agri-food supply chains, as more than thirty-three percent global food production is wasted or lost due to mismanagement. The ongoing challenges, including resource scarcity, climate change, generation, etc., need immediate actions from stakeholders develop resilient chains. Previous studies explored chains their barriers, enablers, etc. Still, there needs be literature on innovations in that can build last long compete post-pandemic scenario. Thus, also required explore chain for sector. current research employed a stepwise weight assessment ratio analysis (SWARA) assess This study pioneer using SWARA application evaluate innovation identify most preferred alternatives. results show ‘Business strategy innovations’ significant bring resiliency followed by ‘Technological innovations.’ provides insights decision makers understand attain resilience help industry survive sustain run.

In response to increasing global waste generation due population growth, urbanization, and industrialization, wastewater treatment operations should shift from being solely energy consumers becoming producers by harnessing sludge (WWS). This approach holds great potential for meeting demands addressing the challenges of treatment. The recovery heat electrical WWS offers a viable solution reduce costs within WWTPs. Thermochemical technologies such as pyrolysis, gasification, combustion hold their efficiency, reaction times, retrieval capabilities. These demonstrate feasibility in terms operational costs, circular economy principles, socio-environmental impact, thanks ongoing advancements waste-to-energy research. review aims explore recovering bioenergy (biogas or syngas) generate energy, including heat, electricity, other innovative products. article provides critical comprehensive examination thermochemical technologies, taking into account technological, economic, factors. It then presents integration techniques that effectively combine anaerobic digestion with conversion enhance syngas, biogas, flue-gas energy. results this study underscore significant sludge-to-energy schemes.

Analyses in the past decade and more recently, catastrophic events, including extreme temperatures, unpredictable weather patterns, floods, wildfires caused by climate change, have become too common worldwide. There is overwhelming evidence that country commitments expressed National Determined Contributions (NDCs) can contribute to stabilising or reversing course of impacts change. With multiplicity NDC measures, compounded their complexities limited resources, multi-criteria decision-making tools be used making informed decisions about development. Furthermore, while many countries are blessed with an abundance sustainable resources technologies feed into NDCs, a major challenge prioritising them as part national global change mitigation adaptation agenda. Many (MCDM) methods been developed over years. However, implementation practice for measures still not well-known despite high acceptance academic literature. This study adopts systematic review peer-reviewed literature from Web Science grey recently launched Technology Needs Assessment database fully understand MCDM evaluating projects versus perspectives. The Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method adopted, culminated identification 464 journal articles 50 TNA reports analysis. results indicate amongst techniques literature, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) most widely research, simplified practice.

This research focuses on the implementation of micro-hybrid renewable energy systems (MHRES) in rural Zambia, where a large part population lacks adequate electrical infrastructure. Using multi-criterion decision-making approach (MCDM), specifically Technique for Preference Order by Similarity to an Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) with entropy-weighted method, this aims identify optimal MHRES solution replace dependence wood and fossil fuels. Analysis is carried out 14 scenarios, taking into account technical, economic, social, environmental criteria. The results show that biogas-solar photovoltaic integrated Energy System Power Safe Storage Battery Systems 190 (SBS 190) most visible option, demonstrating relative proximity 0.98556. In contrast, diesel generator-solar PV system least favorable, 0.02576. Validation through convergent distance assessment (CODAS), evaluation based from average (EDAS), weighted aggregate sum product (WASPAS) confirm its robustness. proposed designed meet needs communities using local biomass solar resources, free obstacles high buildings structures. highlights potential promote sustainable development developing countries, providing valuable insights policymakers stakeholders.

Energy recovery from waste presents a promising alternative for several countries, including Ghana, which has struggled with unsustainable treatment methods and an inadequate power supply decades. The current study adopts comprehensive multi-criteria decision-making approach the selection of optimal waste-to-energy (WtE) technology implementation in Ghana. Four WtE technologies are evaluated against twelve criteria. An integrated AHP-fuzzy TOPSIS method is applied to estimate criteria’s weights rank alternatives. From AHP results, technical criteria obtained highest priority weight, while social emerged as least important process. overall ranking order by fuzzy follows: anaerobic digestion > gasification pyrolysis plasma gasification. sensitivity analysis indicates highly consistent sturdy results regarding selection. This recommends adopting hybrid system technologies, this offers well-balanced under all evaluation compared standalone systems. may help government Ghana other prospective investors select suitable technology, could serve index future research
