Are deep eutectic solvents (DESs) a promising alternative to conventional solvents? Perhaps, but their development is hindered by plethora of misconceptions. These are carefully analyzed here, beginning with the very meaning DESs, which has strayed far beyond its original scope mixtures Lewis or Brønsted acids and bases. Instead, definition that grounded on thermodynamic principles distinguishes between encouraged, types precursors can be used prepare DESs reviewed. The extraction of bioactive compounds pharmaceutical interest from natural sources has been significantly explored in recent decades. Abstract In the spirit of circular economy and sustainable chemistry, use environmentally friendly chemical products in pharmacy has become a hot topic. recent years, organic solvents have been subject great range restriction policies due to their harmful effects on environment toxicity human health. parallel, deep eutectic (DESs) emerged as suitable greener with beneficial environmental impacts rich palette physicochemical advantages related low cost biocompatibility. Additionally, DESs can enable remarkable solubilizing effect for several active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), thus forming therapeutic (TheDESs). this work, special attention is paid DESs, presenting precise definition, classification, methods preparation, characterization.
