Due to the worldwide consumption of coffee, many tons spent coffee grounds (SCGs) are discarded each year, as a by-product preparation. Not only their disposal is costly, but also it may cause release compounds that can endanger environment. However, there valuable chemical be extracted from SCGs and used in food industry. The aim this study was investigate main parameters affecting extraction caffeine polyphenols (i.e., chlorogenic acid, neochlorogenic caffeic acid) evaluate antioxidant properties extracts. To end, solvent, temperature, time, liquid-to-solid ratio were studied. A response surface methodology optimize process. According results, content optimum extract found 6.14 mg/g dry SCGs, total polyphenol 19.85 mg gallic acid equivalents/g, while ferric reducing power DPPH scavenging values 136.69 μmoL ascorbic equivalents/g 230.41 DPPH/g, respectively. experimental close agreement with predicted ones, highlighting potential for isolation bioactive proposed procedure.

Urban agriculture is crucial for enhancing food security in densely populated areas, but maintaining soil health these settings key long-term productivity. This study investigates the effects of locally produced compost and biochar amendments on plant nutrients at two urban farms Sacramento, California, USA. Regionally sourced was from pistachio shells, made on-site green waste, creating a closed-loop system that recycles organic materials back into soils. We hypothesized combined application would increase water holding capacity nutrient retention, leading to enhanced microbial activity higher concentrations corn compared individual amendments. Field trials were established both sites using randomized complete block design with four treatments: control, applied approximately 25 t ha −1 (equivalent 10 Mg C ), 12.5 compost-biochar mix (20 ). Soil samples collected during mid- late-season, analyzed physicochemical properties. Corn kernel also measured. Over one growing season, results showed treatments significantly increased capacity, matter content, cation exchange better structure retention. nitrate (NO 3 − –N) bioavailable phosphorus (P) biochar-amended The metabolic community evenness, though overall diversity remained stable. kernels exhibited concentrations, particularly P, Mg, Ca, Fe. Overall, combination treatment had most significant impact improving properties, responses, demonstrating their cumulative benefits crop nutrition. By utilizing recycling this demonstrates resource-efficient approach fertility resource-limited farms. These practices have potential play vital role addressing challenges communities, those experiencing insecurity, while promoting sustainable resource management.

Abstract Circular supply chain management (CSCM) is a promising way to achieve economic and environmental sustainability address the waste problem. However, developing fully circular system costly time-consuming, especially for small medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). SMEs need better CSCM by implementing practices. This study aims (1) critically validate hierarchical structure of SMEs; (2) identify causal interrelationships among attributes; (3) determine practical attributes SME improvement in Indonesia. An approach consisting fuzzy Delphi method (FDM), best worse (BWM), decision-making trial evaluation laboratory (FDEMATEL) designed fulfill objectives this study. The results show implementation that benefit through performance gains. Waste practices product design are aspects; particular, support building as an alternative. criteria provide insights Indonesia eco-design, sustainable design, green technology, treatment capability, designing environment.

Sustainable agriculture is an important target of the Development Goals (SDGs). Information and communication technologies (ICT) could be instrument to assist developing countries in achieving this goal. This study investigates short- long-term effects ICT-related factors (telephone, Internet, mobile phone use) alongside traditional inputs (agricultural land, labor, fertilizer) on sustainable agricultural production Bangladesh using autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model from 2000 2020. In short term, telephone use labor involved have a positive impact production. Conversely, influence internet use, land negative run. long run, these relationships undergone substantial changes. The usage demonstrate decreasing trend, but impacts Internet usage, total display progressively favorable pattern Notably, fertilizers has been found offers valuable insights into evolving role ICT sustainability, emphasizing need for context-specific policy interventions that consider both benefits.
