The
limited
degradation
of
synthetic
polymers
used
in
food
packaging
when
discarded
the
environment
is
a
major
concern
for
society.
Therefore,
industry
and
academia
have
sought
to
develop
biodegradable
eco-friendly
materials
single-use
packaging.
An
interesting
alternative
polymeric
films,
which
why
different
biopolymers
been
production
sustainable
It
worth
mentioning
that
use
one
most
successful
innovations
address
issues
related
environment.
Among
available
raw
materials,
starch
extracted
from
renewable
sources
very
promising
this
purpose,
due
its
abundance,
low-cost
compared
other
ability
produce
non-toxic
films.
However,
alone,
pure
has
many
limitations,
can
be
overcome
by
developing
mixture
with
(polymer
blends),
preferably
sources,
such
as
poly(lactic
acid)
(PLA).
In
context,
absence
literature
reviews
evidencing
results
application

foods

us
write
article,
given
importance
polymer
blends
produced
types
(cassava,
corn,
pea,
potato,
rice
wheat)
PLA
matrix.
According
results,
it
clear

on
PLA/Starch
are
promising,

being

waste

nature.
Obviously,

research
needed
further
improve
performance
while

there
still

Microplastics
are
generated
from
plastic
waste
in
landfills
due
to
physical,
chemical,
and
biological
effects,
eventually
enter
into
the
leachate.
Leachate
is
a
potential
source
of
environmental
microplastics
which
has
not
been
emphasized.
Here,
we
summarized
investigation
leachate
9
countries
28
papers,
provided
comprehensive
review
sampling,
detection,
separation
leachate,
elaborated
on
quality
control
each
process.
There
more
than
forty
types
with
diverse
shapes,
wide
size
distribution,
concentrations
0–25
items/L.
Commonly
used
techniques
FTIR,
Raman,
SEM,
py-GC–MS
for
characterizing
microplastics,
while
standardization
micro-
or
nanoplastics
complex
composition
should
be
further
studied.
We
also
discussed
depth
degradation
mechanism
advanced
oxidation
processes
(AOPs).
can
decomposed
small
molecules
such
as
aldehydes
ketones,
some
even
degraded
CO2
H2O
AOPs,
may
implemented
treatment
plants.
This
provides
scientific
fundamentals
understanding
landfill
proposes
removal
strategies
future
research.
