Abstract Aquafeed quality is the most critical factor for aquaculture sustainability. However, limitations of traditional feed ingredients such as fishmeal (FM) need alternative strategies to ensure nutritional requirements aquatic animals. In this trial, four test diets were formulated (2 × 2 factorial design), where FM was incorporated in two at 10% with or without Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) 1 g/kg. At same time, replaced yellow mealworm ( Tenebrio molitor ) meal (TM) SC The growth performance indices (final weight, weight gain, and SGR), utilization (FCR PER) markedly affected by protein source (FM TM) dietary P < 0.05). significantly 0.05) whole-body lipid contents, while moisture ash contents unaffected > TM SC. intestinal villi showed a marked increase both height branching treated groups along whole length intestine. Novel, eco-saving and low-cost food sources are a global priority, such as edible insects. This work sets valorization pathway for frass Tenebrio molitor adult insects using solid-state fermentation (SSF) to obtain fungal proteases. Initial screening experiments demonstrated that Aspergillus uvarum MUM 08.01 was the most efficient proteases producer. Small-scale SSF with resulted in high activity (65 U g-1), which increased 52% when BSG mixed (1:1, w/w). The optimal conditions from Box-Behnken design frass:BSG mixture 152 g-1 of activity, is full accordance value predicted by model. scale-up 50 g up 202.2 g-1. study presents an innovative utilization insects' by-products field enzymes production circular economy guidelines.

Insect based feeds (entofeeds) are emerging as a promising alternative for aquaculture nutrition, offering numerous advantages over conventional feed sources. This review assesses the nutritional composition of entofeeds, highlighting their rich protein content, essential amino acid profiles, healthy lipid compositions, well micronutrients. Compared to traditional like fish meal, entofeeds have great potential in reducing reliance on marine resources while minimizing environmental impacts, including land, water, and energy use. Additionally, ability upcycle organic waste supports concept circular economy. The also explores feeding trials various species, demonstrating positive outcomes growth performance, conversion efficiency, immune health. Despite these advantages, face challenges related regulatory approvals, cost-effectiveness, consumer acceptance. identifies areas future research, optimizing formulations, scaling production, enhancing integration into sustainable practices. Ultimately, hold significant address current sustainability shaping animal feed.

Mealworms and black soldier fly (BSF) larvae are two of the most reared insects at an industrial scale. Both may feed on by-products from agricultural food industries. Feed efficiency is one important aspects such processes varies between species substrates depends metabolic performance larvae. Compared to each other, both hold advantageous capabilities affecting their efficiency, likely depending substrate. We mealworms BSF a diverse selection industries, quantified major rates across life spans, compared performances.
