Growing population, industrialisation, and demand for resources put pressure on the delicate balance of planet’s ecosystems. From alternative sources energy, healthier foods, cleaner water, an overall more sustainable economy, integration microalgae in various industries, that otherwise are based practices hurt environment, could be a successful solution. To reach goal, further research is required complex relationship between growth parameters (temperature, light intensity spectrum, nutrient distribution, inhibiting factors, so on). The scientific community successfully used to produce pigments, biofuel, animal fodder, methods sequestering heavy metals, toxic compounds from much more. In this review article, we approach use municipal wastewater treatment, mainly using nitrogen phosphorous present water as nutrients. Data were collected articles published last 7 years (2018–2024). results show very efficient at N P wastewater, well carbon, converting them high-value substances (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, etc.) with applications multiple industries.

Abstract Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are a promising bio-based alternative to traditional plastics derived from petroleum. Abstract Purpose Microalgae are considered a promising source of bioenergy and high value-added products that could help face the rising demand for energy raw materials. However, microalgae systems entail consumption materials energy, with potential environmental, economic, social costs. While environmental economic impacts have been analyzed in literature, dimension has barely explored. In this article, life cycle assessment (S-LCA) is applied to identify main contributors risks. Transitioning to a circular economy (CE) may create unintended social consequences. This systematic review analysed 45 published studies from 2009 2023 that evaluate these consequences using lifecycle assessment (S-LCA), tool based on the UNEP Guidelines. Most focused activities like energy recovery and material recycling rather than reuse, remanufacturing, repair. Worker-related issues health, safety or fair wages were more frequently reported impacts consumers society. Challenges in S-LCA application for CE include defining system boundary, identifying affected stakeholders, selecting relevant impact categories indicators, obtaining verifiable data inventory, addressing subjectivity interpretation.
