Sustainable Growth: Unveiling the Impact of Government Attention on Corporate Environmental Performance

ABSTRACT With the ongoing development of ecological civilization and advancing state governance, governments focus increasingly on environmental issues to foster low‐carbon development. We define government attention (GEA) by aggregating analyzing textual data extracted from work reports 2008 2020, using web scraping expanding vocabulary with Word2Vec model. This study examines impact GEA corporate performance (CEP), datasets A‐share listed corporations in Shanghai Shenzhen. Our findings reveal a significant positive relationship between CEP, which remains robust after addressing endogeneity concerns conducting various sensitivity tests. Mechanistic analysis indicates that enhances CEP strengthening penalties, directing financial resources toward less polluting firms, raising managerial green awareness. Heterogeneity suggests GEA's effects are more pronounced cities extensive digital procurement. Further shows capital market responds positively GEA, enhancing stock liquidity, institutional investor holdings, long‐term returns, overall firm value. These provide critical insights for policymakers sustainable practices

The Impact of Green Finance on Urban Carbon Emission Efficiency: Threshold Effects Based on the Stages of the Digital Economy in China

As one of the effective ways to achieve “carbon neutrality”, examining impact green finance (GF) on carbon emission efficiency (CE) is great significance for promoting low-carbon development in China. Moreover, digital economy a key catalyst achieving China’s “dual-carbon” targets, as its “greening” characteristic considered instrumental urban development. However, effects (Dig) stage GF CE have not been sufficiently studied. Using panel data from 276 Chinese cities 2011 2021 and constructing theoretical model based Cobb–Douglas production function, this paper analyzes CE. The empirical results indicate that (1) can improve CE, two positive U-shaped relationship, which still valid after robustness tests. (2) heterogeneity more significant non-resource-based cities, pilot with higher financial levels. (3) significantly improves by driving technology innovation (Gti) energy improvement (Eei). (4) dual-threshold effect Dig. When Dig level excessively high, will be weakened.

Evaluation of the impact of the ecological environment damage compensation system on enterprise pollutant emissions

The development of an environmental damage compensation framework is a critical innovation in ecological civilization reforms. This study considers the pilot policy for reform as quasi-natural experiment, employing difference-in-differences approach with emission data from listed companies between 2008 and 2017. research evaluates impact system’s implementation areas its implications improving legal practices. results show that system significantly reduces corporate pollution emissions by 1.93% (p < 0.01), demonstrating effectiveness governance tool. heterogeneity analysis reveals stronger effects heavily polluting industries (3.30%, p 0.01) compared to non-heavily (1.25%, 0.1), state-owned enterprises (2.06%, versus non-state-owned (1.71%, developed regions (2.50%, underdeveloped (1.00%, not significant). dual mechanisms negotiation litigation impose strict constraints on behavior, effectively addressing issue “corporate pollution, public suffering, government expenses.” To optimize system, targeted recommendations include strengthening mechanisms, refining judicial responsibilities, enhancing coordination regions. These findings highlight originality importance model balancing protection economic development.
