To address the challenges of twenty-first century, particularly negative effects climate change, mitigation measures such as Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are being employed. Vegetation, a part various NbS interventions, provides different ecosystem services that help combat current climate-related vulnerabilities. This research aims to illustrate connection between plants’ contribution adapting change and creation more sustainable spaces, focusing on usage bioretention systems (BRs) an example NbS. Some main aspects how vegetation is selected for BRs according qualities may contribute developing landscapes, along with providing key features adaptation, taxonomic data, specific plant species have been demonstrated be good candidates planting in BRs, also discussed. Therefore, importance this paper comprehensive systematization insightful suggestions future BR implementation.

Abstract Urban flooding is a key global challenge which expected to become exacerbated under change due more intense rainfall and flashier runoff regimes over increasingly urban landscapes. Consequently, many cities are rethinking their approach flood risk management by using green infrastructure (GI) solutions reverse the legacy of hard engineering approaches. The aim GI attenuate, restore, recreate natural response, bringing hydrological responses closer pre‐urbanized conditions. However, effectiveness often difficult determine, depends on both magnitude storm events spatial scale infrastructure. Monitoring successes failures schemes not routinely conducted. Thus, it can be determine whether provides sustainable solution manage flooding. This article an international perspective current use for mitigation offers in light future challenges. An increasing body literature further suggests that optimized alongside gray provide holistic delivers multiple co‐benefits environment society, while resilience. will have work synergistically with existing upgraded if managed futureproof manner. Here, we discuss series priorities challenges must overcome enable integration into stormwater frameworks effectively risk. categorized under: Engineering Water > Sustainable Planning Science Extremes

Conservation finance embraces a series of innovative financing mechanisms aimed at raising and managing capital to be used for the conservation biodiversity. The climate emergency pursuit sustainable development underline criticality financial support achieving this goal. Funding protection biodiversity, in fact, has long been disbursed by governments residual form, only after they have dealt with social needs political challenges. To date, main challenge is identify solutions that not generate new revenue but also effectively manage allocate existing funding provide mix community benefits as well. paper, therefore, aims act wake-up call, urging academics working economics turn their attention resolving problems faced conservation. Rain gardens, as bioretention facilities belonging to blue-green infrastructure solutions, are becoming increasingly implemented in cities. The main reason for this is support traditional drainage systems receiving runoff from impermeable surfaces and managing it through temporary retention infiltration into the ground. However, practice shows, investors focusing on construction of their commissioning skip monitoring during operating period, thus missing opportunity obtain reliable data hydrological performance under actual field conditions. purpose study was evaluate effectiveness a rain garden, located an urban area, capture roof building. assessment based results measurements carried out 2021 variability levels water retained garden growing medium moisture content at several selected points depression against thermal rainfall showed that demonstrated good performance. This proven by observed direct rainwater structural layer or short time events with higher total. highest area inflow garden. research may be useful planning realization future investments which situated areas similar meteorological
