Leachates from landfills are highly polluted with a considerable content of organic and inorganic pollutants which pose severe deterioration to environment including soil, groundwater, surface water air. Several mitigative measures have been applied for effective management leachate such as biological treatment, engineering device control migration, physical/chemical membrane technology. Among the alternatives, anaerobic digestion (AD) is promising, removal high potential renewable energy production nutrient recovery. Landfill (LFL) an excellent source substrate in AD system, its matters. The advantages disadvantages LFL were extensively discussed this review terms co-substrate, pre-treatment application, types design parameters digester. critically evaluated previous studies on treatment using system well factors can enhance efficiency, application integrated additive substances inhibition factors. Abstract Waste activated sludge (WAS) is attracting attention for its energy and resource potential.
